Guar gum fiber increases suppressor of cytokine signaling ‐1 expression via toll‐like receptor 2 and dectin‐1 pathways, regulating inflammatory response in small intestinal epithelial cells
Conclusion: Intact GG activates TLR2 and dectin‐1, and increases SOCS‐1 expression via JAK and cSrc pathways, resulting in anti‐inflammatory regulation in intestinal epithelium. This article is protected by copyright. All rights reserved (Source: Nahrung / Food)

Effect of cocoa's theobromine on intestinal microbiota of rats
Conclusion: Cocoa's theobromine plays a relevant role in some effects related to cocoa intake, such as the lower proportion of IgA‐coated bacteria. Moreover, theobromine modifies gut microbiota although other cocoa compounds could also act on intestinal bacteria, attenuating or enhancing the theobromine effects. This article is protected by copyright. Metabolomic based identification of clusters that reflect dietary patterns
Conclusion: The model developed was capable of classifying individuals into dietary patterns based on metabolomics data. Future applications of this approach could be developed for rapid and objective assignment of subjects into dietary patterns. This article is protected by copyright. Back cover: Phytochemicals enhance antioxidant enzyme expression to protect against NSAID ‐induced oxidative damage of the gastrointestinal mucosa
Mol. Nutr. Food Res. 2017, 61, 1600659. DOI: 10.1002/mnfr.201600659 Nonsteroidal anti‐inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), including aspirin, diclofenac, indomethacin, and ketoprofen, are widely used in clinical medicine, but these drugs may cause gastrointestinal ulcers. This review confirms that dietary phytochemicals possess protective effects and curative potential for ulcers that is mediated by improving angiogenesis and up‐regulation antioxidant enzymes. Front cover: Health benefits of methylxanthines in neurodegenerative diseases
Mol. Nutr. Food Res. 2017, 61, 1600670. DOI: 10.1002/mnfr.201600670 The long‐term moderate consumption of caffeine in coffee, theobromine in cocoa or theophylline in tea, is reviewed. It is shown that this long‐term moderate consumption engages a variety of neuroprotective molecular mechanisms leading to a reduced risk of suffering from some neurodegenerative diseases. Muscle metabolic alterations induced by genetic ablation of 4E ‐BP1 and 4E‐BP2 in response to diet‐induced obesity
ConclusionsThese findings indicate that 4E‐BP proteins may prevent excess lipid accumulation in skeletal muscle and suggest that 4E‐BPs are key regulators of muscle homeostasis regardless of insulin sensitivity. This article is protected by copyright. All rights reserved (Source: Nahrung / Food)

Exacerbation of liver steatosis following exposure to famine and overnutrition
ConclusionUnder famine and high‐fat refeeding stress, rats were extremely susceptible to developing hepatic steatosis. This is presumably a consequence of upregulation of de novo lipogenesis and enhanced glucose flux from muscle to de novo lipogenesis in the liver. This article is protected by copyright. Front cover: Sesamol supplementation prevents systemic inflammation ‐induced memory impairment and amyloidogenesis via inhibition of nuclear factor kappaB
Mol. Nutr. Food Res. 2017, 61, 1600734. DOI: 10.1002/mnfr.201600734 Dietary supplementation of sesamol, a phenolic nutraceutical component from sesame, suppresses systemic‐inflammation‐induced memory impairment via binding with nuclear translocation and the DNA binding site of NFκB, and consequently blocking the activation of astrocyte/microglia and β‐amyloid accumulation. Phenol ‐enriched olive oils modify paraoxonase–related variables: a Randomized, Crossover, Controlled Trial
ConclusionThe present study reveals that the intake of phenol‐enriched FVOOs modulates oxidative balance by modifying PON‐related variables according to PC content and source, and this modulation can be perceived as beneficial. This article is protected by copyright.
