Novel urinary alkylresorcinol metabolites as biomarkers of whole grain intake in free ‐living Swedish adults
ConclusionDHCA or DHPPTA excretion in 24‐h urine might be a suitable medium‐ to long‐term biomarker of WG wheat and rye intake. These findings need to be confirmed in populations with low and infrequent WG intake. Urinary excretion of the alkylresorcinols metabolites 3,5‐dihydroxycinnamic acid (DHCA) and 5‐(3,5‐dihydroxyphenyl) pentanoic acid (DHPPTA) might be a suitable medium‐to‐long‐term biomarker of whole grain wheat and rye intake. Isoflavones and their metabolites influence the milk component synthesis ability of mammary epithelial cells through prolactin/ STAT5 signaling
Conclusions: Isoflavones and their metabolites influence the milk production ability of MECs through different interactions with prolactin/STAT5 signaling. Simultaneous intake of multiple isoflavones by consumption of legumes may induce promotive or adverse effects on lactating MECs. This article is protected by copyright. Occurrence of antibiotic resistance genes in the fecal DNA of healthy omnivores, ovo ‐lacto vegetarians and vegans
ConclusionA high impact of the geographical location on AR gene distribution was seen in the cohort of subjects analyzed, irrespective of their dietary habits. Dietary intake has been identified as one of the primary routes for the introduction of antibiotic resistant bacteria and their genes into the human digestive tract. In the present study, the effects of long‐term omnivore, ovo‐lacto vegetarian and vegan diets on the occurrence of 12 genes conferring resistance to tetracyclines, macrolide‐lincosamide‐streptogramin B, vancomycin, and β‐lactams in the human gut were studied. A high impact of the geographica...

Xanthophyll esters are found in human colostrum
ConclusionXanthophyll esters are significant contributors to the carotenoid profile in the colostrum, while mature milk does not contain these compounds. Therefore, fatty acid acylation to xanthophylls is activated during the accumulation of carotenoids in the human mammary gland. The sharp decline in the amount of xanthophyll esters in mature milk indicates that the lipophilic components are those recently incorporated in the mammary epithelium. This article is protected by copyright. Chain length ‐dependent effects of inulin‐type fructan dietary fiber on human systemic immune responses against hepatitis‐B
ConclusionSupport of immunity is determined by the chain length of ITFs. Only long‐chain ITFs support immunity against pathogenic hepB‐epitopes introduced by vaccination. Our findings demonstrate that specific dietary fibers need to be selected for immunity support. This article is protected by copyright. All rights reserved (Source: Nahrung / Food)
