Lycopene inhibits regulator of calcineurin 1 ‐mediated apoptosis by reducing oxidative stress and down‐regulating Nucling in neuronal cells
Conclusion: Lycopene inhibits RCAN1‐mediated apoptosis by reducing ROS levels and by inhibiting NF‐κB activation, Nucling induction, and the increase in apoptotic indices in neuronal cells. Consumption of lycopene‐rich foods may prevent oxidative stress‐associated neuronal damage in some pathologic conditions such as DS or AD.This article is protected by copyright. Association between the Dietary Inflammatory Index (DII) and telomere length and C ‐reactive protein from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey‐1999‐2002
Conclusion: In these NHANES data there was an association between DII and LTL. This study also provided a successful construct validation of the DII using CRP in a nationally representative sample. These results are consistent with the hypothesis that diet‐associated inflammation determines LTL.This article is protected by copyright. All rights reserved (Source: Nahrung / Food)

Supplementation of oligofructose, but not sucralose, decreases high ‐fat diet induced body weight gain in mice independent of gustducin‐mediated gut hormone release
ConclusionOFS, but not sucralose, reduced body weight gain and decreased intestinal permeability, but not glucose intolerance. Effects were not mediated by altered gut hormone levels or gustducin‐mediated signaling.Artificial sweeteners do not affect gut hormone levels and are metabolically inert in mice on a high fat diet. In contrast, prebiotic oligosaccharides (OFS) prevent body weight gain but not glucose intolerance. Alterations in sweet and short‐chain fatty acid receptors (FFAR) (studied in WT and α‐gust−/− mice) which regulate gut hormone levels are not mandatory for the positive effects of OFS. Enhanced...

The BASALIT multicentre trial: Gly m 4 quantification for consistency control of challenge meal batches and towards Gly m 4 threshold data
Conclusion: The novel Gly m 4‐specific ELISA proved consistency of challenge meal batches over a 56 months study period. With an average of 178 μg/g Gly m 4 in SPI, Gly m 4‐LOAEL can be calculated once clinical LOAEL data based on SPI are available. Hence, sensitivity of patients can be correlated to the relevant allergen content instead of total protein of the allergenic source. This article is protected by copyright. Dietary low ‐fat soy milk powder retards diabetic nephropathy progression via inhibition of renal fibrosis and renal inflammation
ConclusionThe present data suggests that long‐term consumption of LFSMP but not HFMSP retards DN progression via suppressing renal injury, myofibroblast differentiation and renal macrophage infiltration in diabetic condition. This article is protected by copyright. Impact of red meat consumption on the metabolome of rats
ConclusionsThis study is the first to identify specific differences in the metabolome related to the intake of red and white meat. These differences may reflect perturbations in endogenous metabolism that can be linked to the proposed harmful effects associated with intake of red meat. This article is protected by copyright. Piperine inhibits ABCA1 degradation and promotes cholesterol efflux from THP ‐1‐derived macrophages
ConclusionOur findings suggest that piperine promotes ChE in THP‐1‐derived macrophages by up‐regulation of ABCA1, which might be mediated by inhibition of calpain activity. This novel bioactivity makes the dietary constituent piperine a good candidate to be further explored for therapeutic or preventive applications in the context of atherosclerosis. This article is protected by copyright. Effects of ferric citrate supplementation on advanced glycation end products in a rat model of streptozotocin/nicotinamide ‐induced diabetes
ConclusionsOverall, the present results suggest a dose‐related effect of ferric citrate supplementation on AGE metabolism, and this effect was more evident at high iron doses (>1 g of ferric iron/kg diet). This article is protected by copyright. All rights reserved (Source: Nahrung / Food)

Curcumin improves glucose tolerance via stimulation of glucagon ‐like peptide‐1 secretion
ConclusionThese findings demonstrate the biological function of curcumin as a GLP‐1 secretagogue and the possible molecular target that mediates GLP‐1 secretion. Increases in the secretion of endogenous GLP‐1 induced by curcumin may allow the dosages of other diabetic medicines to be reduced and aid in the prevention of diabetes. This article is protected by copyright.
