Usual interstitial pneumonia end-stage features from explants with radiologic and pathological correlations
Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) is the most frequent and severe idiopathic interstitial pneumonia, with typical high-resolution computed tomography (HRCT) features and histologic pattern of usual interstitial pneumonia (UIP); its main differential diagnosis is fibrotic nonspecific interstitial pneumonia (F-NSIP). Usual interstitial pneumonia was mainly described from lung biopsies, and little is known on explants. Twenty-two UIP/IPF explants were analyzed histologically and compared with previous open lung biopsies (OLBs; n = 11) and HRCT (n = 19), when available. (Source: Annals of Diagnostic Pathology)

Toll-like receptor 4–induced inflammatory responses contribute to the tumor-associated macrophages formation and infiltration in patients with diffuse large B-cell lymphoma
To evaluate the expression of tumor-associated macrophages (TAMs) and Toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4) in diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) and their correlation with patient clinical characteristics, we detected using immunohistochemistry in 81 specimens of patients with DLBCL. The correlation between protein expression levels and clinical parameters, as well as the association between CD68 and TLR4 were analyzed. The number of CD68 TAMs was closely related to β2-microglobulin (P = .028 and P < .05), whereas there was no significant correlation between the number of CD68 TAMs and other clinical factors. Anaplastic lymphoma kinase gene expression in small round cell tumors of childhood—a comparative ımmunohistochemical study
The focus of this study was to investigate anaplastic lymphoma kinase (ALK) expression by immunohistochemistry using a highly specific antibody. Distribution and frequency of ALK expression may provide a clue for ALK inhibitor use in small round cell tumors of childhood. The study group involved 76 small round cell tumors of childhood, which composed of 11 rhabdomyosarcomas, 13 Wilms tumors, 7 Ewing sarcoma/primitive neuroectodermal tumors, 34 peripheral neuroblastic tumors, and 11 acute lymphoblastic lymphoma. Chromophobe renal cell carcinoma with neuroendocrine and neuroendocrine-like features. Morphologic, immunohistochemical, ultrastructural, arrayCGH analysis of 18 cases and review of the literature
Chromophobe renal cell carcinoma (CRCC) with neuroendocrine differentiation (CRCCND) has only recently been described. 18 cases of CRCC with morphologic features suggestive of neuroendocrine differentiation were selected from among 624 CRCC in our registry. The tissues were fixed in neutral formalin, embedded in paraffin, cut into 4 -5 μm thin sections and stained with Hematoxylin and Eosin (H&E). As CRCC with neuroendocrine features were suggested tumors with following morphology: 1, trabecular/palisading/ribbon-like, gyriform, insular, glandular and solid pattern. Desmoglein 3 and p40 immunoreactivity in neoplastic and nonneoplastic thymus: a potential adjunct to help resolve selected diagnostic and staging problems
The potential usefulness of the squamous markers p40 and desmoglein 3 (DSG-3) for the diagnosis and staging of selected thymic lesions is uncertain. We investigated their expression and distribution pattern in 66 thymomas, 12 thymic squamous carcinomas, 6 undifferentiated thymic carcinomas, 5 hyperplastic thymi, and 5 normal thymi. p40 nuclear and DSG-3 cytoplasmic/membranous immunoreactivity in greater than or equal to 10% of thymic epithelial cells was interpreted as positive, and DSG-3 distribution pattern was classified as organotypic and nonorganotypic. Sclerosing Epithelioid Fibrosarcoma of the Kidney: Clinicopathologic and Molecular Study of a Rare Neoplasm at a Novel Location
Sclerosing epithelioid fibrosarcoma (SEF) is a rare fibrosarcoma variant with specific histomorphology and consistent translocation (EWSR1-CREB3L1/2). To date, ̴ 110 cases have been reported; only 15 originated within the abdomen. With only 3 cases reported parallel to our study, primary renal SEF are exceptionally rare but might be under-recognized. We herein describe two cases affecting a 23–year-old female and a 43-year-old male. Tumor size was 22 cm and 4.2 cm, respectively. Patient 1 developed skeletal and multiple pulmonary metastases.
