A Comparison of Cancer Stem Cell Markers and Non-classical MHC Antigens in Colorectal Tumor and Non-Cancerous Tissues
Colorectal carcinoma (CRC) is one of the most fatal types of cancer in both women and men, and, unfortunately, patients are often diagnosed at an advanced stage. Cancer stem cells (CSCs) are associated with poor prognosis, metastasis and recurrence, as well as chemotherapy and radiotherapy resistance. Therefore, different treatment alternatives are needed to facilitate the elimination of CSCs. One such approach is immunotherapy; however, tumor cells can evade immune cells by alteration of the expression patterns of human leukocyte antigens (HLA). (Source: Annals of Diagnostic Pathology)

Dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans: pathology, genetics and potential therapeutic strategies
Dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans (DFSP), the most common dermal sarcoma, is a malignant fibroblastic tumor most frequently arising in middle-aged adults. It is typically a low-grade sarcoma that grows slowly but has a high rate of local recurrence with low metastatic potential. DFSP is characterized by a specific translocation t(17;22)(q22;q13) leading to formation of COL1A1-PDGFB fusion transcripts. Histologically DFSP has characteristic morphology, of storiform islands of bland spindle cells, and immunohistochemically it shows diffuse expression of CD34. (Source: Annals of Diagnostic Pathology)

Correlation of microvessel parameters in invasive ductal carcinoma breast and fibroadenomas: a morphometric study
Modifications of microvascular configuration are essential features encountered during the progression of breast tumours. Our objectives were to correlate morphometrically evaluated microvessel parameters [microvessel density(MVD), microvessel caliber(VC), microvessel cross sectional area(VCSA), percentage of total VCSA (%TVCSA) and total microvessel boundary density(TVBD)] with histological grades of invasive ductal carcinoma breast(IDC) and benign breast lesions. Ameloblastoma versus basal cell carcinoma: an immunohistochemical comparison
This study aims to appraise the current allocation of ameloblastoma in the classification through an immunohistochemical comparison of some aspects of behavior with basal cell carcinoma. Sections from retrospectively retrieved formalin fixed - paraffin embedded tissue blocks of ameloblastoma (n=37) and basal cell carcinoma (n=34) were comparatively examined for the immunohistochemical expression for Ki-67, Bcl-2, MMP-2, MMP-9, CD31 and D2 –40 monoclonal antibodies. Gastric mixed adenoneuroendocrine carcinoma: correlation of histologic characteristics with prognosis
Gastric mixed adenoneuroendocrine carcinomas (MANECs) are rare, with both the exocrine and neuroendocrine component exceeding 30% volume. Several classifications for MANECs have been proposed, yet they have not been clinically evaluated. The aim of this study was to to evaluate the correlation between tumor grade, histologic characteristics and prognosis of gastric MANECs. We collected eligible 14 cases in our series and 31 cases in the literature and compared the prognostic difference among gastric MANECs with different histologic characteristics. Mesothelial cell deposits in lymph nodes —a diagnostic pitfall
Finding epithelioid keratin-positive cells in a lymph node poses little, if any, diagnostic challenge in a patient with known carcinoma. The same finding in a patient with no history of cancer raises a possibility of metastasis from unknown primary. Seeking an alternative explanation is critical, as the ramifications of the decisions in this situation are profound: stage IV malignancy vs benign. (Source: Annals of Diagnostic Pathology)

Histopathological diagnosis of acral lentiginous melanoma in early stages
Acral lentiginous melanoma is a rare variant of melanoma that is associated with a relatively low survival rate. The latter is partly due to the advanced stage in which the tumor is usually diagnosed. The diagnostic delay is mainly due to difficulties in identifying the very early histopathological signs of acral melanoma. The current article is a review of diagnostic clues, concepts, and definitions from the literature, as well as illustrating examples from our own archives. We have sought to provide a paper that can be easily consulted in difficult cases of acral lentiginous melanoma. (Source: Annals of Diagnostic Pathology)
