Torsion of the Optic Nerve Head Is a Prominent Feature of Normal-Tension Glaucoma [Glaucoma]
Conclusions. Normal-tension glaucoma eyes had a greater ONH torsion compared to POAG eyes with matched axial length. The direction of the ONH tilt and torsion was related to the location of the visual field defect only in NTG eyes. (Source: Investigative Ophthalmology)

A Homozygous Missense Mutation in NEUROD1 Is Associated With Nonsyndromic Autosomal Recessive Retinitis Pigmentosa [Genetics]
Conclusions. We identified a potential novel genotype–phenotype correlation between NEUROD1 and nonsyndromic ARRP. Our study supports the idea that NEUROD1 is important for maintenance of the retina function and partial loss-of-function mutation in NEUROD1 is likely a rare cause of nonsyndromic ARRP. The Effect of Bangerter Filters on Binocular Function in Observers With Amblyopia [Visual Psychophysics and Physiological Optics]
Conclusions. Bangerter filters can immediately reduce suppression and promote binocular summation for mid/low spatial frequencies in observers with amblyopia. (Source: Investigative Ophthalmology)

The Driving Visual Field and a History of Motor Vehicle Collision Involvement in Older Drivers: A Population-Based Examination [Low Vision]
Conclusions. Results suggest that older drivers with severe impairment in the lower or left region of the driving visual field are more likely to have a history of at-fault collision involvement. (Source: Investigative Ophthalmology)

Microperimetry of Nascent Geographic Atrophy in Age-Related Macular Degeneration [Retina]
Conclusions. Areas of nGA were characterized by worse microperimetric retinal sensitivity compared with nonatrophic areas in eyes with intermediate AMD, but better retinal sensitivity compared with areas of drusen-associated atrophy detected on SD-OCT. Areas of nGA were also not always the worst performing point in an eye. These findings further our understanding of the functional changes occurring in novel SD-OCT identified pathological changes in intermediate AMD. (Source: Investigative Ophthalmology)

Cone Responses in Usher Syndrome Types 1 and 2 by Microvolt Electroretinography [Retina]
Conclusions. Cycle-by-cycle ERG showed progressive loss of amplitude in both USH1 and USH2 subjects, comparable to that reported with psychophysical measures. Usher subjects showed abnormal ERG response latency, but this changed less than amplitude with time. In USH syndrome, CxC ERG is more sensitive than conventional ERG and warrants consideration as an outcome measure in USH treatment trials. (Source: Investigative Ophthalmology)

Ocular Higher-Order Wavefront Aberrations in the Japanese Adult Population: the Yamagata Study (Funagata) [Clinical and Epidemiologic Research]
Conclusions. Aging is associated with increases in ocular HOAs, independent of other possible confounding factors. The association of ocular HOAs with corneal parameters indicates that ocular HOAs are mainly generated by the cornea. Internal HOAs, supposedly generated from cataract progression, may be associated with systemic factors, including serum creatinine levels and blood pressure. (Source: Investigative Ophthalmology)

Involvement of the Receptor-Associated Prorenin System in the Pathogenesis of Human Conjunctival Lymphoma [Anatomy and Pathology/Oncology]
Conclusions. The present study suggests that activation of (P)RR and AT1R is associated with the pathogenesis of conjunctival EMZL by stimulating the production of FGF2 and MMPs. (Source: Investigative Ophthalmology)

Protective Effects of {beta}1/2 Adrenergic Receptor Deletion in a Model of Oxygen-Induced Retinopathy [Biochemistry and Molecular Biology]
Conclusions. We confirm that β1- and β2-ARs play a pivotal role in retinal angiogenesis. In their presence, β3-ARs potentiate angiogenic responses, whereas, in their absence, β3-ARs sustain the angiogenic drive. These results suggest β-ARs as promising targets for therapies aimed to counteract proliferative retinopathies. (Source: Investigative Ophthalmology)
