Usefulness of Three-dimensional(3D) simulation software in hepatectomy for pediatric hepatoblastoma
Hepatoblastoma (HB) is the most common malignant liver tumor in childhood. Complete HB surgical resection which is technically demanding is the cornerstone of effective therapy with a good prognosis. The aim of our study is to evaluate the usefulness of 3D simulation software in assisting hepatectomy in pediatric patients with HB. (Source: Surgical Oncology)

Practical intraoperative pathologic evaluation of sentinel lymph nodes during sentinel node navigation surgery in gastric cancer patients – Proposal of the pathologic protocol for the upcoming SENORITA trial
Over the last decade, as the number of patients with early gastric cancer increased and the subsequent survival rate improved, there has been a consistent effort to verify the applicability of the sentinel node concept in gastric cancer in a bid to improve postoperative quality of life in these patients. During sentinel node navigation surgery in gastric cancer patients, intraoperative pathologic examination of the retrieved sentinel nodes plays a critical role in determining the extent of surgery, but the optimal method is still under debate. Prognosis and management of adult wild type gastrointestinal stromal tumours (GISTs): A pooled analysis and review of literature
A pooled review was performed to determine survival in adult WT GIST (Wild Type GastroIntestinal Stromal Tumours) and compare the same with pediatric WT GISTs. Electronic databases were searched using the terms “Wild type” AND “GIST”. Eighty-two adult patients from 14 studies were included in the pooled analysis. Cumulative survival was greater than 50% in both age groups, hence medial survival could not be computed. Mean survival in adults was 15.7 years ± 0.78 and in children was 18.8 years ±  1.3 (p = 0.241). (Source: Surgical Oncology)

RBX1 expression is an unfavorable prognostic factor in patients with non-small cell lung cancer
The purpose of this study was to assess the prognostic value of RBX1 in patients with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Quantitative real-time (RT-PCR) and western blot were used to evaluate the mRNA and protein expression of RBX1 in NSCLC and corresponding non-cancerous tissues. Immunohistochemistry was performed to examine the expression of RBX1 in 192 NSCLC tissue samples. Overall survival was evaluated by the Kaplan-Meier method and analyzed by the log-rank test between different groups. The results showed that the RBX1 expression was significantly higher in NSCLC tissues than the corresponding non-cancerous lung tis...

Laparoscopic left lateral sectionectomy in patients with histologically confirmed cirrhosis
Laparoscopic left lateral sectionectomy (LLS) is now considered as a standard practice. However, the safety of laparoscopic LLS in cirrhotic patients is unclear. This is the retrospective study of comparing the outcomes of laparoscopic LLS between cirrhotic and non-cirrhotic patients. (Source: Surgical Oncology)

Reply: Radical hysterectomy and survival outcomes in the management of early stage cervical cancer
The informative remarks conveyed by Saltari et al. [1] in reference to our documented survival rate comparisons amongst cervical cancer patients treated with a radical hysterectomy were compelling [2]. Consequently, we appreciate the opportunity to respond to their specific inquiries. (Source: Surgical Oncology)

Positive predictive value of breast lesions of uncertain malignant potential (B3): Can we identify high risk patients? The value of a multidisciplinary team and implications in the surgical treatment
The use of conventional needle core biopsy for palpable masses and vacuum-assisted needle core biopsy for microcalcifications has significantly increased the preoperative diagnosis rate, but the strategy for those patients with lesions of uncertain malignant potential (B3) still remains controversial. The aim of this study was to evaluate the positive predictive value (PPV) of the malignancy of B3 lesions in order to establish their correct management in the setting of a multidisciplinary care pathway. Total laparoscopic right colectomy: The duodenal window first approach
Total laparoscopic right colectomy (TLRC) is a demanding procedure requiring laparoscopic skills and expertise in surgical oncology. Identifying the correct plane of dissection may be difficult. A correct management of ileocecal and right colic vascular pedicles is pivotal to achieve an oncological resection and the adequate blood supply of ileal and colic stumps. (Source: Surgical Oncology)
