Evidence-based guideline recommendations on treatment strategies for localized Ewing's sarcoma of bone following neo-adjuvant chemotherapy
(1) To provide recommendations regarding the choice of surgery, radiation therapy (RT), or the combination of surgery plus RT in patients with localized Ewing's sarcoma of bone following neoadjuvant chemotherapy. (2) To determine the appropriate surgical planning imaging (pre-chemotherapy magnetic resonance imaging [MRI] or post-chemotherapy MRI) to identify optimal resection margins in patients with localized Ewing's sarcoma who undergo surgery following neoadjuvant chemotherapy. Laparoscopic treatment of early-stage endometrial cancer with and without uterine manipulator: our experience and review of literature
The aim of this study was to retrospectively compare in a series of 110 patients with early-stage endometrial cancer recurrence rate and surgical outcomes after total laparoscopic (LPS) hysterectomy with lymphadenectomy performed with or without uterine manipulator. (Source: Surgical Oncology)

Report on demographics of gall bladder cancer in Delaware and retrospective review of treatment strategies for gallbladder cancer in a large community cancer center
GBC is frequently found incidentally on pathologic review of the removed gallbladder. NCCN guidelines have treatment recommendations based on specific stage of gallbladder cancer (GBC). However, there is limited information on the experience of community cancer centers in treating GBC based on these guidelines. (Source: Surgical Oncology)

Clinical outcome and patient satisfaction with the use of bovine-derived acellular dermal matrix (SurgiMend™) in implant based immediate reconstruction following skin sparing mastectomy: a prospective observational study in a single centre
The advent of acellular dermal matrix devices (ADMs) has enhanced both the scope of implant-based immediate breast reconstruction (IBR) following skin sparing mastectomy (SSM) for the treatment or risk reduction of breast cancer. Currently, there are a wide range of options available for the use of ADMs. (Source: Surgical Oncology)

The prognostic value of a classification system for centrally located liver tumors in the setting of hepatocellular carcinoma after mesohepatectomy
A classification system of centrally located liver tumors (CLLTs) was proposed by our group in 2013, which divided CLLTs into four subtypes by focusing on the involvement of resected segments and the anatomical location of lesions relative to the principal hepatic vascular structures. The current study aimed to analyze the clinical characteristics and compare the surgical outcomes of the different CLLTs classification system for patients with hepatocelluar carcinoma (HCC) underwent mesohepatectomy (MH). Hepatocellular Carcinoma: From Diagnosis to Treatment
Primary liver cancer is the sixth most common cancer overall and the second most common cause of cancer mortality worldwide. Hepatocellular carcinoma accounts for up to 90% of all primary hepatic malignancies and represents a major international health problem. While surgical resection and transplantation is the cornerstone of therapy in early-stage hepatocellular carcinoma, locoregional therapy and sorafenib are beneficial in those who are not surgical candidates or have more advanced disease. At times, both surgical therapy and locoregional therapy may be integrated. (Source: Surgical Oncology)

Cytologic atypia in the contralateral unaffected breast is related to parity and estrogen-related genes
The contralateral unaffected breast (CUB) of women with unilateral breast cancer provides a model for the study of breast tissue-based risk factors. Using random fine needle aspiration (rFNA), we have investigated hormonal and gene expression patterns related to atypia in the CUBs of newly diagnosed breast cancer patients. Comparison of Long-term Oncological Outcomes of Appendiceal Cancer and Colon Cancer: a Multicenter Retrospective Study
There has been no comparative study of the long-term oncological outcomes of appendiceal cancer and colon cancer. We hypothesized that the oncological outcome is worse in appendiceal cancer because perforation is more frequent than in colon cancer. (Source: Surgical Oncology)

Making cancer visible – Dyes in surgical oncology
Dyes share an intricate relationship with oncology. Dyes can cause cancer as chemical carcinogens, but can also be harnessed against cancer when used as diagnostic and therapeutic agents. Histopathology, imaging, and newer molecular diagnostics all rely on dyes, and their use in sentinel lymph node biopsies and intra-operative imaging has helped drive a paradigm shift in cancer surgery towards minimally-invasive and organ sparing approaches with enhanced resection accuracy. As therapeutic agents, the cytotoxicity of specific dyes can be employed in direct chemo-ablation or in photodynamic therapy. (Source: Surgical Oncology)
