Renal myolipoosteoma: A distinctive lesion in a child
We describe a distinctive renal tumor, a myolipoosteoma (MLO), in an 11-year-old boy who presented with a 6-month history of slight right flank intermittent pain. A gross examination revealed a well-defined, 5.5  cm mass with bone-like consistency. The lesion histologically featured an admixture of mature adipose tissue, spindle cells, and bony components. No atypia, mitotic activity, or pleomorphisms were observed in the tumor. The spindle cells were smooth muscle actin (SMA) and desmin positive but HMB45 and Melan-A negative, indicating that they were of a muscular nature and differed from that of angiomyolipoma (AML). ...

Long-term prognostic value of preoperative anemia in patients with colorectal cancer: A systematic review and meta-analysis
Colorectal cancer is the third most commonly diagnosed cancer in men and second in women, accounting for more than 1.4 million new cases and 694  000 associated deaths per year worldwide [1]. The primary treatment for patients with colorectal cancer is surgical resection of the primary tumor. Partly because of advances in surgery, coupled with effective (neo)adjuvant therapy, the five-year survival rate of colorectal cancer has increased to 64% [2]. (Source: Surgical Oncology)

Contemporary reappraisal of the efficacy of adjuvant chemotherapy in resected retroperitoneal sarcoma: Evidence from a nationwide clinical oncology database and review of the literature
While margin-negative resection remains the cornerstone of therapy for retroperitoneal sarcoma (RPS), the impact of adjuvant chemotherapy (AC) on overall survival (OS) remains poorly understood. (Source: Surgical Oncology)

Radical appendectomy as an alternative to right colon resection in patients with epithelial appendiceal neoplasms
Appendectomy is an extremely common surgical procedure usually performed for an inflammatory process within this organ. Upon occasion, the pathology within the appendix is a neoplastic process which requires definitive oncologic management. (Source: Surgical Oncology)

Log odds of positive lymph nodes as a novel prognostic indicator in NSCLC staging
The paper aimed to compare the efficacy of log odds (LODDS) compared to a classification based on the distribution of involved lymph nodes (pN) and lymph node ratio (LNR). (Source: Surgical Oncology)

Prolonged pneumoperitoneum time is an independent risk factor for intravesical recurrence after laparoscopic radical nephroureterectomy in upper tract urothelial carcinoma
To evaluate the impact of pneumoperitoneum time on intravesical recurrence (IVR) in upper tract urothelial carcinoma (UTUC) patients who underwent laparoscopic radical nephroureterectomy (LRNU). (Source: Surgical Oncology)

Laparoscopic right hepatectomy after radioembolization using yttrium-90 resin microspheres
Liver surgery after selective internal radiation therapy (SIRT) has been scarcely reported. The combination of laparoscopic approach in post-SIRT major liver surgery is a complex scenario to our knowledge not reported so far. (Source: Surgical Oncology)

Strategies to improve local control of resected pancreas adenocarcinoma
Background: Only approximately one in ten pancreas cancer patients is a candidate for potentially curative resection of this disease. Even this small fraction of patients has a poor prognosis following pancreatico-duodenectomy. The disease has an anatomic location that makes it difficult for the surgeon to maintain adequate margins of resection and prevent tumor spillage at the time of resection. Also, the disease is biologically aggressive and even with a complete visible resection of the disease, micrometastases are likely to remain behind. (Source: Surgical Oncology)

Dealing with microscopic peritoneal metastases of epithelial ovarian cancer. A surgical challenge
Understanding biology and progression mechanisms of peritoneal metastases of epithelial ovarian cancer (EOC) is a cornerstone in the knowledge and the comprehensive management of the disease. Despite clinical remission after the association of complete cytoreductive surgery and platinum-based chemotherapy, peritoneal recurrence still occurs in 60% of patients.Eligible studies, published from 1980 to June 2016, were retrieved through ClinicalTrials.gov, MEDLINE, Cochrane databases and bibliography searches. Robotic right hemicolectomy: Analysis of 108 consecutive procedures and multidimensional assessment of the learning curve
Surgeons tend to view the robotic right colectomy (RRC) as an ideal beginning procedure to gain proficiency in robotic general and colorectal surgery. Nevertheless, oncological RRC, especially if performed with intracorporeal ileocolic anastomosis confectioning, cannot be considered a technically easier procedure. The aim of this study was to assess the learning curve of the RRC performed for oncological purposes and to evaluate its safety and efficacy investigating the perioperative and pathology outcomes in the different learning phases.
