Long-term prognostic value of preoperative anemia in patients with colorectal cancer: A systematic review and meta-analysis

Colorectal cancer is the third most commonly diagnosed cancer in men and second in women, accounting for more than 1.4 million new cases and 694  000 associated deaths per year worldwide [1]. The primary treatment for patients with colorectal cancer is surgical resection of the primary tumor. Partly because of advances in surgery, coupled with effective (neo)adjuvant therapy, the five-year survival rate of colorectal cancer has increased to 64% [2].
