Effectiveness and failures of a fast track protocol after cytoreduction and hyperthermic intraoperative intraperitoneal chemotherapy in patients with peritoneal surface malignancies
The aim of this study was to analyze the results short term perioperative of patients with peritoneal surface malignancies undergoing cytoreduction with peritonectomy and HIPEC under a controlled fast track protocol and evaluate the factors related to the failure of implementation of the protocol. Hepatoblastoma of the adult: A systematic review of the literature
Hepatoblastoma is the most common malignant liver tumor in children. On the other hand in the adult HB is very rare and characterized by unfavorable prognosis.A review of the entire literature was performed: 58 articles and 63 cases of HB were found. The patient's data were collected and analyzed. No correlation with hepatitis virus was found and AFP was elevated in most cases. Usually HB forms a large single mass in the liver and presents aggressive behavior, with local invasiveness and metastatic spread. (Source: Surgical Oncology)

From bench to bedside: Clinical implications of KRAS status in patients with colorectal liver metastasis
While the role of KRAS in the molecular genetics of colorectal cancer has been studied extensively, its prognostic impact in colorectal liver metastases (CRLM) has only recently been examined. This review aimed to summarize currently reported findings on the clinical implications of KRAS mutant (mut-KRAS) status for patients with CRLM. (Source: Surgical Oncology)

Is complete cytoreductive surgery feasible in this patient with ovarian cancer?
Post-operative residual tumor size is the main prognostic factor in advanced epithelial ovarian cancer. Our objective was to develop a score for predicting the feasibility of complete cytoreductive surgery in patients with advanced epithelial ovarian cancer. (Source: Surgical Oncology)

The predictive value of increased sentinel lymph node volume in breast cancer
Breast cancer sentinel lymph nodes (SLNs) with metastases (mets) are often palpably enlarged. We hypothesized that the volume of the SLN and the size of mets are directly related. SLNs harboring mets are often firm, with increased intra-nodal pressure (INP), and we hypothesized that SLN volume, as well as INP, would correlate directly with SLN metastasis size. Operating personnel safety during the administration of Hyperthermic Intraperitoneal Chemotherapy (HIPEC)
Cytoreductive surgery (CRS) and Hyperthermic Intraperitoneal Chemotherapy (HIPEC) is increasingly used in the treatment of peritoneal malignancies. The administration of HIPEC after complete cytoreduction offers the combination of the pharmacokinetic advantages inherent to the intraperitoneal delivery of cytotoxic chemotherapy, with the direct cytotoxic effects of hyperthermia, and has been reported to offer significantly improved patient outcomes. As a result, this novel method disseminates rapidly, with many surgical teams having developed peritoneal malignancy treatment programs. (Source: Surgical Oncology)

A systematic review and meta-analysis of quality of life outcomes after radical cystectomy for bladder cancer
Radical cystectomy and urinary diversion is the treatment of choice for invasive bladder cancer. Quality of life (QOL) is an important outcome of surgery. This review compares the QOL after continent and incontinent urinary diversion in radical cystectomy for patients with primary invasive bladder cancer. (Source: Surgical Oncology)

The influence of chemotherapy-associated sinusoidal dilatation on short-term outcome after partial hepatectomy for colorectal liver metastases: A systematic review with meta-analysis
Hepatic sinusoidal dilatation (SD) is a histopathological entity that occurs in up to 75% of patients undergoing oxaliplatin-based chemotherapy for colorectal liver metastases (CRLM). (Source: Surgical Oncology)
