Relationship between mid upper arm circumference and weight changes in children aged 6–59 months
Conclusions: This study demonstrates a close relationship between MUAC and weight change during recovery from SAM under both research and operational field conditions. Furthermore, changes in both MUAC and weight are observed to occur similarly and rapidly during episodes of illness occurring during treatment with no lag effect on the part of MUAC. This presents the possibility for children undergoing outpatient treatment for SAM to be monitored using MUAC as an alternative to weight. Further research would be required to develop a tool which can be deployed safely and enable MUAC to be used as the sole anthropometric meas...

Double-blind randomized placebo-controlled multicenter clinical trial (phase IIa) on diindolylmethane’s efficacy and safety in the treatment of CIN: implications for cervical cancer prevention
Conclusions: Thus, the use of diindolylmethane in the form of intravaginal suppositories can be effective in patients with CIN I–II and is not accompanied by clinically significant side effects. This approach could be a better option for young women with CIN I–II as it takes in attention their reproductive plans.Trial registrationID: ChiCTR-INR-15007497 (2 December 2015) (Source: Epidemiologic Perspectives and Innovations)

Rotational landmarks of the distal femur in Indian population: A MRI-based study
Conclusion: The CTA was around 6° in our study, and the posterior condylar angle (PCA) would be 3° as the difference between them is 3°. Hence, we conclude that the conventional jigs used in the measured resection technique using 3° external rotation in reference to the posterior condyles are still an appropriate option in normal and varus knees. And there is no difference between Indians and Caucasians, but there was a significant difference with Chinese populations. Although determining rotation based on the posterior condylar axis is more practical, it is prudent to combine it with other methods. (Source: Epidemiolo...

Genetic disruption of Ano5 in mice does not recapitulate human ANO5-deficient muscular dystrophy
Conclusions: Taken together, these data provide the evidence to show that genetic ablation of Ano5 in C57BL/6J mice does not cause overt pathology in skeletal and cardiac muscles, but Ano5 deficiency may lead to altered lipid metabolism and inflammation signaling. Well-being, gender, and psychological health in school-aged children
Conclusions: This study showed that factors related to well-being could mediate the association between gender and psychological complaints, and pointed to the importance of taking into account well-being factors in the analyses of the aetiology of gender differences in psychological complaints. However, our results suggested that future research should explore additional explanations for gender differences in psychological complaints. (Source: Epidemiologic Perspectives and Innovations)

Potential association of vacuum cleaning frequency with an altered gut microbiota in pregnant women and their 2-year-old children
Conclusions: Bacteria showing significant associations are among the dominant gut microbiota, which may indicate indirect immunomodulation of the gut microbiota possibly through increased allergen (dust mites) exposure as a potential mechanism. However, further exploration is needed to unveil mechanistic details. (Source: Epidemiologic Perspectives and Innovations)

Perceptions of prognostic risks in chronic kidney disease: a national survey
Conclusions: Our national survey of nephrologists shows that the risk prediction for major adverse clinical outcomes is valuable in CKD at multiple time frames and risk thresholds. Further research is required in developing relevant and meaningful risk prediction models for clinical decision-making in patient-centered CKD care. Medical management of an ovarian ectopic pregnancy: a case report
Conclusions: Ectopic ovarian pregnancy is a very important medical situation. It should be diagnosed in its early stages otherwise it could be life-threatening and surgical treatment may be inevitable. Because of the importance of fertility, medical treatment is an acceptable option and can be feasible with early diagnosis. (Source: Epidemiologic Perspectives and Innovations)

DNA damage and cellular abnormalities in tuberculosis, lung cancer and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease
Conclusion: COPD patients showed cellular abnormalities that corresponded to cell death by apoptosis and necrosis, while patients with TB presented defects in cytokinesis and dysfunctions in DNA repair that resulted in the formation of micronucleus (MN) besides apoptotic and necrotic cells. Patients with COPD, TB and LC had a low frequency of permanent DNA damage. (Source: Epidemiologic Perspectives and Innovations)

Protein relative abundance patterns associated with sucrose-induced dysbiosis are conserved across taxonomically diverse oral microcosm biofilm models of dental caries
Conclusions: Our findings support the concept of using function-based changes in protein relative abundance as indicators of dysbiosis. Our microcosm model cannot replicate all aspects of the oral environment, but the deep level of metaproteomic analysis it allows makes it suitable for discovering which proteins are most consistently abundant during dysbiosis. It then may be possible to define biomarkers that could be used to detect at-risk tooth surfaces before the development of overt carious lesions. (Source: Epidemiologic Perspectives and Innovations)

Anterior cruciate ligament remnant tissue harvested within 3-months after injury predicts higher healing potential
Background: No study has examined the possible factors associated with different characteristics of stem-like cells derived from anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) remnants. And the purpose of the study is to elucidate whether demographic factors are associated with healing potential of stem-like cells derived from the ACL remnants tissue. Methods: Thirty-six ACL remnants were harvested from patients who received primary arthroscopic ACL reconstruction. Interval from injury to surgery, age, sex, and combined meniscal or chondral injuries were analyzed. Cells were isolated from remnant tissues and their healing potential was ...

Adapting ethical guidelines for adolescent health research to street-connected children and youth in low- and middle-income countries: a case study from western Kenya
Conclusions: Although a vulnerable population, the specific vulnerabilities of SCCY can to some extent be managed using innovative procedures. Engaging SCCY in ethical research is a matter of justice and will assist in reducing inequities and advancing their health and human dignity. (Source: Epidemiologic Perspectives and Innovations)

Shift work and the risk of cardiovascular disease among workers in cocoa processing company, Tema
ObjectiveShift work has been implicated in cardiovascular disease (CVD), a major cause of death globally. The aim of this study was to evaluate the risk of developing CVD in shift work.DesignA cross-sectional study involving secondary analysis of shift and non-shift work from an industry in Ghana.ParticipantsTwo hundred (113 shift and 87 non-shift) consecutive workers who consented were recruited into the study. A structured questionnaire was administered to deduce information on participant’s age, alcohol consumption pattern, smoking habits, history of diabetes, stroke and hypertension. Results: Shift workers were found...
