An expedited approach for sustained delivery of BMP ‐7 to bone defects using gene activated fragments of subcutaneous fat
ConclusionsImplantation of BMP‐7 gene activated fat tissue fragments can elicit regeneration of large bone defects in rats and could become a clinically expeditious strategy for in vivo bone tissue engineering. However, gene expression must be improved in order to reliably induce osseous bridging of critical‐size bone defects. This article is protected by copyright. All rights reserved. Lentiviral HSV ‐Tk.007 mediated suicide gene therapy is not toxic for normal brain cells
ConclusionHere we show that HSV‐Tk.007 mediated suicide gene therapy is not toxic to normal brain cells. This observation is of high relevance for translation of lentivirus‐mediated suicide gene therapies into the clinic to treat brain tumor patients. (Source: The Journal of Gene Medicine)

Combined treatment, based on lysomustine administration with mesenchymal stem cells expressing cytosine deaminase therapy, leads to pronounced murine Lewis lung carcinoma growth inhibition.
ConclusionsOur data indicates that the combination CDA/UPRT‐expressing AT‐MSCs with lysomustine has a superior antitumor effect in murine lung carcinoma model, in comparison with monotherapies with transfected AT‐MSCs or lysomustine alone, possibly because of synergistic effect of the combination therapy. Oncolytic vaccinia virus inhibits human hepatocellular carcinoma MHCC97 ‐H cell proliferation via endoplasmic reticulum stress, autophagy and Wnt pathways
ConclusionsOur results may provide new insight into the mechanisms of VV‐induced tumor cell death. The engineered recombinant VV containing optimized therapeutic transgenes may provide a new avenue for cancer gene therapy. (Source: The Journal of Gene Medicine)

Therapeutic Effect of Intra ‐Articular Injection of Ribbon‐Type Decoy Oligonucleotides for Hypoxia Inducible Factor‐1 on Joint Contracture in an Immobilized Knee Animal Model
ConclusionsThe present study demonstrates the important role of HIF‐1 in the initial progression of immobilization‐induced joint contracture, and indicates the possibility of molecular treatment to prevent progression of joint contracture prior to intervention with physical therapy. CFHR2 ‐rs2986127 as a genetic protective marker for acute anterior uveitis in Chinese patients
ConclusionsThis study reveals an association between CFHR2‐rs2986127 and AAU diagnosis, especially in gender, AS status and other clinical signs, such as posterior segment involvement. Our results may further enrich the growing understanding of uveitis genetics, and raise clinical diagnostic accuracy of this disease. (Source: The Journal of Gene Medicine)

Inflammation ‐induced transgene expression in genetically engineered equine mesenchymal stem cells
ConclusionsThe results of the present study demonstrate that on demand transgene expression from the NFkB‐responsive promoter using naturally occurring inflammatory cytokines can be induced in undifferentiated and chondrogenically differentiated equine MSCs. (Source: The Journal of Gene Medicine)

Combined ultrasound‐targeted microbubble destruction and polyethylenimine‐mediated plasmid DNA delivery to the rat retina: enhanced efficiency and accelerated expression
ConclusionsThe present study demonstrates that enhanced and accelerated pDNA expression can be achieved in the retina/RPE cells in vivo by UTMD physical techniques combined with a PEI chemical vector. Our study provides useful information for further in vivo retinal gene therapy work. Copyright © 2016 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd. (Source: The Journal of Gene Medicine)

The neuropilin‐1 receptor mediates enhanced tumor delivery of H2K polyplexes
ConclusionsCombining an endosomolytic peptide, H3K with H2K polyplexes as a carrier further enhanced transfection in vivo. Moreover, the widespread distribution of H2K polyplexes is mediated by NRP‐1, suggesting that transcytosis of these polyplexes through the tumor endothelium may lead to efficient transfection. Genomic and transcriptomic profiles and in vitro resistance to mitoxantrone and idarubicin in pediatric acute leukemias
ConclusionsIn AML resistance of blasts to idarubicin and mitoxantrone may reflect impaired integrins pathway. In ALL development of resistance is caused by inhibition of B and T cells activation. (Source: The Journal of Gene Medicine)
