Telomere length in early childhood: Early life risk factors and association with carotid intima-media thickness in later childhood
Conclusions
Reduced telomere length in early childhood is independently associated with arterial wall thickness in later childhood, suggesting that reduced telomere length during early childhood may be a marker of vascular disease risk. (Source: European Journal of Preventive Cardiology)

Impacts of intensive follow-up on the long-term prognosis of percutaneous coronary intervention in acute coronary syndrome patients - a single center prospective randomized controlled study in a Chinese population
Conclusions
A cardiologist-coordinated intensive follow-up program markedly decreased cardiovascular risk factors, reduced medical costs, promoted medication adherence and improved the long-term prognosis of patients after percutaneous coronary intervention in the Chinese population. Interventions to improve medication adherence in coronary disease patients: A systematic review and meta-analysis of randomised controlled trials
Conclusion
Interventions to improve adherence to multiple CV medication in a CHD population significantly improved the odds of being adherent. Simple one-component interventions might be a promising way to improve medication adherence in a CHD population, as they would be easier to replicate in different settings and on a large scale. Are hypertensive women at additional risk of ischaemic heart disease from physically demanding work?
Conclusions
This study among Danish nurses indicated that hypertensive women may be at particular high risk of IHD from physically demanding work. (Source: European Journal of Preventive Cardiology)

Healthy lifestyle and heart rate variability in young adults
Conclusions
Few individuals adopted a healthy lifestyle in this large contemporary cohort of young adults from the general population. Adopting a healthy lifestyle has an important effect on autonomic function. (Source: European Journal of Preventive Cardiology)

Association between low-dose acetylsalicylic acid reinitiation and the risk of myocardial infarction or coronary heart disease death
Conclusions
ASA reinitiation was not associated with a decreased risk of myocardial infarction/coronary heart disease death. This may be explained by confounding by indication/comorbidity, whereby higher-risk patients are more likely to reinitiate therapy. An additional period of ASA discontinuation among reinitiators was associated with an increased risk of myocardial infarction/coronary heart disease death. Prenatal exposure to maternal stress following bereavement and cardiovascular disease: A nationwide population-based and sibling-matched cohort study
Conclusion
Our results suggested a modest association between prenatal stress and CVD, both in childhood and early adulthood, which could be of importance, especially at an older age when the individuals are followed over a long period. (Source: European Journal of Preventive Cardiology)

A novel strategy for evaluating tilt test in athletes with syncope
Conclusion
Our results provide supportive evidence that a novel stratification based on haemodynamic criteria can improve the sensitivity of the tilt test for the diagnosis of RS in athletes. (Source: European Journal of Preventive Cardiology)

Social participation and coronary heart disease risk in a large prospective study of UK women
Conclusions
Associations between participation in various social activities and CHD risk appear to be largely or wholly due to confounding by personal characteristics of the participants. (Source: European Journal of Preventive Cardiology)

Ideal cardiovascular health and risk of cardiovascular events in the EPIC-Norfolk prospective population study
Background
The American Heart Association has prioritised seven cardiovascular health metrics to reduce the cardiovascular burden, including: body mass index, healthy diet, physical activity, smoking status, blood pressure, glycated haemoglobin A1c and total cholesterol. The aim of the current study was to assess the association between the American Heart Association-defined health metrics and the risk of cardiovascular events in the EPIC-Norfolk prospective study.
Design
Prospective cohort study.
Methods
An overall cardiovascular health score was calculated based on the number of health metrics including ideal, intermed...

Determinants of adherence to evidence-based therapy after acute myocardial infarction
Conclusions
Outpatient adherence to recommended therapy in patients with acute myocardial infarction is suboptimal and is related to health services utilization. Further research is needed to investigate patient subjective behavioral-related drivers for medication therapy discontinuation after myocardial infarction in the absence of a clinical reason. Isotemporal substitution of sedentary time by physical activity of different intensities and bout lengths, and its associations with metabolic risk
Conclusion
Theoretical substitutions of sedentary time with PA of any intensity and of as little as one minute were associated with significantly lower ORs for MetS. This may be an easily communicable message in clinical practice and for public health purposes. (Source: European Journal of Preventive Cardiology)
