Variations in vascular mortality trends, 2001-2010, among 1.3 million women with different lifestyle risk factors for the disease
Conclusion Vascular disease mortality trends varied in this cohort by adiposity and socioeconomic status, but not by smoking status or other lifestyle risk factors. Prevention and treatment of vascular disease appear not to have been equally effective in all subgroups of UK women. (Source: European Journal of Preventive Cardiology)

Validity of a long-term cardiovascular disease risk prediction equation for low-incidence populations: The CAMUNI-MATISS Cohorts Collaboration Study
Conclusions In this low-incidence European population, long-term CVD prediction through the CAMUNI risk score is accurate and it has the potential to improve current primary prevention strategies based on short-term risk scores alone. (Source: European Journal of Preventive Cardiology)

Polypill for the prevention of cardiovascular disease (PolyIran): study design and rationale for a pragmatic cluster randomized controlled trial
Conclusion The infrastructure of GCS and the primary health care system in Iran enabled the conduct of this pragmatic large-scale trial. If the polypill strategy proves effective, it may be implemented to prevent cardiovascular disease in developing countries. (Source: European Journal of Preventive Cardiology)

High occupational physical activity and risk of ischaemic heart disease in women: The interplay with physical activity during leisure time
Conclusions This study among Danish nurses suggests that high physical activity at work is a risk factor for IHD among women. Vigorous physical activity during leisure time lowered but did not completely counteract the adverse effect of occupational physical activity on risk of IHD. Maximal cardiac output in athletes: Influence of age
Conclusions Based on current published studies, the enhanced Qmax observed in EA compared with untrained healthy subjects matched for body size is not affected by age but may be related, at least in part, to the improved body composition of EA. (Source: European Journal of Preventive Cardiology)

Effect of the natural sweetener, steviol glycoside, on cardiovascular risk factors: A systematic review and meta-analysis of randomised clinical trials
Conclusion The evidence from published RCTs suggests that stevioside may generate reductions in blood pressure and fasting blood glucose. The sizes of the effects are small, and the substantial heterogeneity limits the robustness of any conclusions. Rebaudioside A does not appear to have any significant effects on blood pressure or cardiovascular risk factors. Available clinical trials vary in design and reporting quality, and some are characterised by inadequate sample sizes. In addition, the participants in most of the trials have high cardiovascular risk. Further clinical trials and regulatory assessments are warranted....

Impaired vascular function and repair in patients with premature coronary artery disease

Secondary prevention after acute myocardial infarction: Drug adherence, treatment goals, and predictors of health lifestyle habits. The BLITZ-4 Registry
Conclusions Six months after an AMI, despite a high adherence to drug treatments, BP, LDL, and diabetic goals are inadequately achieved. Subjects with healthy lifestyles improved after discharge, but the rate of those with regular exercise habits and adequate fish intake could be further improved. Access to post-discharge cardiac visit and referral to cardiac rehabilitation were associated with better adherence to healthy lifestyles. Knowledge of the variables associated with specific lifestyle changes may help in tailoring secondary prevention programmes. (Source: European Journal of Preventive Cardiology)

Fetal echocardiography for congenital heart disease diagnosis: a meta-analysis, power analysis and missing data analysis
Conclusions Prenatal ultrasound is a powerful tool for the diagnosis of CHD; however, a single ultrasonographic regime is not definitive on its own and must be interpreted in the context of demographic and clinical characteristics. (Source: European Journal of Preventive Cardiology)

Adults with complex congenital heart disease have impaired skeletal muscle function and reduced confidence in performing exercise training
Conclusion Adults with complex congenital heart disease have impaired skeletal muscle function compared with patients with simple lesions and healthy controls. They also had lower confidence in performing exercise training. Thus, this population might have a potential for rehabilitation focusing on improving muscle function and confidence in performing exercise training. Assessment of diet quality improves the classification ability of cardiovascular risk score in predicting future events: The 10-year follow-up of the ATTICA study (2002-2012)
