Metabolically healthy obesity and cardiovascular events: A systematic review and meta-analysis
Conclusions None of the approaches clearly identified an obese subgroup not at increased risk of cardiovascular events compared with normal-weight healthy participants. A benign obese phenotype might be defined by strict definitions, but insufficient studies exist to support this. More research is needed to better define MHO. Improving cardiovascular prevention in general practice: Results of a comprehensive personalized strategy in subjects at high risk
Conclusions Our comprehensive, personalized method for cardiovascular risk prevention in people at high risk appears feasible in general practice. The improvement in the global cardiovascular risk profile was associated with a better prognosis. (Source: European Journal of Preventive Cardiology)

Association between osteoarthritis and cardiovascular disease: Systematic review and meta-analysis
Conclusions Prevalence of cardiovascular disease in patients with osteoarthritis is significant. There was an observed increased risk of incident heart failure and ischaemic heart disease in people with osteoarthritis compared with matched controls. However, the relationship between osteoarthritis and cardiovascular disease is not straightforward and there is a need to better understand the potential common pathways linking pathophysiological mechanisms. Contrast volume to creatinine clearance ratio for the prediction of contrast-induced nephropathy in patients undergoing coronary angiography or percutaneous intervention
Conclusions This is one of the largest studies evaluating the association between the V/CrCl ratio and the risk of contrast-induced nephropathy in patients undergoing coronary angiography or percutaneous coronary intervention. We found that a V/CrCl ratio >6.15 was independently associated with an increased risk of contrast-induced nephropathy. (Source: European Journal of Preventive Cardiology)

A trial of telmisartan prevention of cardiovascular diseases (ATTEMPT-CVD): Biomarker study
Conclusion This study provided the first evidence that ARB treatment caused a smaller increase in plasma BNP and a greater decrease in UACR than non-ARB treatment, independently of blood pressure control, and gives a novel insight into the significance of BNP and UACR as predictors of cardiovascular and renal risk on antihypertensive treatment. Cost-effectiveness of self-management of blood pressure in hypertensive patients over 70 years with suboptimal control and established cardiovascular disease or additional cardiovascular risk diseases (TASMIN-SR)
Conclusion Self-management of blood pressure in high-risk people with poorly controlled hypertension not only reduces blood pressure, compared with usual care, but also represents a cost-effective use of healthcare resources. (Source: European Journal of Preventive Cardiology)

Statin tolerability: In defence of placebo-controlled trials
Conclusions Given the absence of any signal of intolerance in clinical trials, it appears that statin intolerance in the clinic is commonly due to the nocebo effect causing patients to attribute background symptoms to the statin. Consistent with this, over 90% of patients who have stopped treatment because of an adverse event can tolerate a statin if re-challenged. Consequently, new agents, including monoclonal antibodies to proprotein convertase subtilisin/kexin type 9, will be useful when added to statin therapy but should rarely be used as a statin substitute. Effect of weight loss on subclinical myocardial injury: A clinical trial comparing gastric bypass surgery and intensive lifestyle intervention
Conclusion In patients with morbid obesity, bariatric surgery was associated with a significantly greater reduction in high-sensitivity cardiac troponin I, an index of subclinical myocardial injury, than intensive lifestyle intervention. The reduction appeared to be mediated by reductions in body weight and serum triglycerides. This suggests that weight loss following bariatric surgery may reduce cardiometabolic stress and subsequent risk of heart failure. (Source: European Journal of Preventive Cardiology)

Response profiles of oxygen uptake efficiency during exercise in healthy children
Conclusions This study provides sex- and age-related normative values for both OUEP and OUES, which facilitates the interpretation of OUE in children. OUEP and OUES are objective and non-invasive cardiopulmonary exercise test parameters which do not require a maximal effort and might be indicative of cardiorespiratory function during exercise. The association of albuminuria and high-sensitivity C-reactive protein with the efficacy of HMG-coenzyme A reductase inhibitors for cardiovascular event prevention
Conclusions The start of statin treatment is associated with a significantly lower absolute as well as relative risk of cardiovascular events in subjects with hypercholesterolemia and elevated albuminuria, whereas these drugs had less effect in subjects with normal albuminuria.
