Depression and anxiety symptoms as predictors of mortality in PCI patients at 10 years of follow-up
Conclusions Depression is associated with an increased risk of 77% for all-cause mortality, 10 years post-PCI, independently of anxiety. Although anxiety was associated with all-cause mortality, it has no additional value in the case of co-occurring depression. (Source: European Journal of Preventive Cardiology)

Personalized prevention approach with use of a web-based cardiovascular risk assessment with tailored lifestyle follow-up in primary care practice - a pilot study
Conclusions The personalized prevention approach offers a system for integrated risk profiling and individualized health management that was well received in general practice. The client-centred approach, which was embedded in a local community setting, using a web-based health risk assessment with tailored feedback and linkage to regional health management and lifestyle providers proved feasible, and successful. Participating in the health risk assessment elicited actual behaviour change among follow-up survey respondents. (Source: European Journal of Preventive Cardiology)

National prevalence of coronary heart disease and its relationship with human development index: A systematic review
Conclusions With the development of socioeconomic status, as measured by the Human Development Index, the prevalence of coronary heart disease is growing in developing countries, while declining in developed countries. Future research needs to pay more attention to the reasonable allocation of medical resources and control of coronary heart disease risk factors. (Source: European Journal of Preventive Cardiology)

Dose-response relationship of cardiorespiratory fitness adaptation to controlled endurance training in sedentary older adults
Conclusions Our data provide quantitative insight into the magnitude of VO2max alterations as affected by exercise intensity, duration, frequency, and program length. The shapes of the dose–response curves are not simply linear, but with many similar trends and noteworthy characteristics. Aerobic training at a mean intensity of 66%–73% HRR with 40–50 min per session for 3–4 day/week for 30–40 weeks appears to be effective and optimal for maximum cardiorespiratory benefits in healthy sedentary older adults. Levels of asymmetric dimethylarginine (ADMA), an endogenous nitric oxide synthase inhibitor, and risk of coronary artery disease: A meta-analysis based on 4713 participants
Conclusions Meta-analysis results indicated that an increased ADMA level is associated with an increased risk of coronary artery disease. (Source: European Journal of Preventive Cardiology)

Fruit and vegetable consumption and mortality in Eastern Europe: Longitudinal results from the Health, Alcohol and Psychosocial Factors in Eastern Europe study
Conclusions Our results suggest that increasing F&V intake may reduce CVD mortality in CEE and FSU, particularly among smokers and hypertensive individuals. (Source: European Journal of Preventive Cardiology)

Relationship between recurrent miscarriage and early preterm delivery and recurrent events in patients with manifest vascular disease: The SMART study
Conclusions In women with previous cardiovascular disease, an obstetric history of recurrent miscarriage is associated with an increased risk of recurrent cardiovascular morbidity and early preterm delivery with cardiovascular mortality. (Source: European Journal of Preventive Cardiology)

The beneficial effects of raising high-density lipoprotein cholesterol depends upon achieved levels of low-density lipoprotein cholesterol during statin therapy: Implications for coronary atheroma progression and cardiovascular events
Conclusions Increasing HDL-C via a broad spectrum of mechanisms appears beneficial in statin-treated CAD patients, but is likely of greater benefit in patients with achieved LDL-C levels ≥70 mg/dL. (Source: European Journal of Preventive Cardiology)

European Primary Care Cardiovascular Society (EPCCS) consensus guidance on stroke prevention in atrial fibrillation (SPAF) in primary care
Conclusions Atrial fibrillation-related stroke is a major public health priority for most health systems. This practical guidance can assist generalist community physicians to translate the large evidence base for this cause of preventable stroke and implement this at a local level. Impact of training methods and patient characteristics on exercise capacity in patients in cardiovascular rehabilitation
Conclusion CR patients were trained in line with current guidelines with moderate-to-high intensity and reached a considerable increase of their training volume. The physical fitness level achieved at discharge from CR depended on various factors associated with training, which supports the recommendation that CR should be offered to all cardiac patients. QT interval, general mortality and the role of echocardiographic parameters of left ventricular hypertrophy: Results from the prospective, population-based CARLA study
Conclusion In the general population, the association between QTc and general mortality is strongest in subjects with low left ventricular mass index and diastolic thickness of the left ventricular posterior wall, thus the prognostic value of QTc needs to be interpreted with regard to these echocardiographic parameters.
