The loss-of-function mutations and down-regulated expression of ASB3 gene promote the growth and metastasis of colorectal cancer cells.
CONCLUSION: ASB3 dysfunction resulted from gene mutations or down-regulated expression frequently exists in CRC and likely plays a key role in the pathogenesis and progression of CRC. PMID: 28088228 [PubMed - in process] (Source: Chinese Journal of Cancer)

Is there still a role for cytotoxic chemotherapy after targeted therapy and immunotherapy in metastatic melanoma? A case report and literature review.
We report a case study of a patient with B-Raf proto-oncogene serine/threonine kinase-mutated metastatic melanoma harbouring many genetic mutations. The patient did not respond to prior targeted therapies or immunotherapies but experienced a dramatic objective radiological and clinical response to subsequent dacarbazine-based chemotherapy. In the era of targeted therapies and immunotherapies for metastatic melanoma, cytotoxic chemotherapies may still represent an interesting therapeutic weapon in a well-defined subgroup of patients presenting with specific genetic and molecular features. Concurrent chemoradiotherapy combined with enteral nutrition support: a radical treatment strategy for esophageal squamous cell carcinoma patients with malignant fistulae.
CONCLUSIONS: CCRT combined with enteral nutrition support is effective for ESCC patients with malignant fistulae. Patients have an increased potential to be cured, especially those who experience complete response and have an increase in NRS score. Careful observation and nutrition support are required for patients with advanced T-category ESCC who undergo CCRT. PMID: 28077159 [PubMed - in process] (Source: Chinese Journal of Cancer)

Effect of transcutaneous electrical acupoint stimulation combined with palonosetron on chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting: a single-blind, randomized, controlled trial.
CONCLUSION: TEAS appears to be a safe and effective therapy to relieve patients' gastrointestinal discomfort after chemotherapy. Trial registration NCT01895010. Registered 21 June 2013. PMID: 28069044 [PubMed - in process] (Source: Chinese Journal of Cancer)

Novel germline mutations in FLCN gene identified in two Chinese patients with Birt-Hogg-Dub é syndrome.
Novel germline mutations in FLCN gene identified in two Chinese patients with Birt-Hogg-Dubé syndrome. Chin J Cancer. 2017 Jan 09;36(1):4 Authors: Li T, Ning X, He Q, Gong K Abstract Birt-Hogg-Dubé (BHD) syndrome, a hereditary renal cancer syndrome caused by mutations in the folliculin (FLCN) gene, is characterized by the presence of fibrofolliculomas, pulmonary cysts, spontaneous pneumothorax, and renal cell carcinoma (RCC). Few BHD syndrome cases have been reported in Asian countries, and cutaneous presentations are relatively rare in Asian patients. Asian BHD patients may be ...

Arresting kinase suppressor of Ras in an inactive state.
Authors: Badshah SL, Mabkhot Y Abstract Ras protein signaling pathways are important in controlling the plight of different types of cancer. Here we discussed the paper entitled "Small molecule stabilization of the KSR inactive state antagonizes oncogenic Ras signalling" published in Nature journal on inactivating the kinase suppressor of Ras (KSR) protein using a small molecule as an inhibitor by Dhawan et al. A biphenyl ether analogue of a quinazoline binds in one of the binding pockets of KSR and results in stabilization of its inactive state. In this inactive state, KSR is unable to take part in the ca...

Clinical comparison of patients with benign urachal masses versus urachal carcinomas.
Authors: Bi X, Wu Z, Han H, Zhou F Abstract The clinical features of 17 patients with benign urachal masses and 30 patients with urachal carcinoma treated at Sun Yat-sen University Cancer Center were analyzed retrospectively. Univariate analysis indicated that seven parameters differed significantly between the two groups. Binary logistic regression analyses showed that the rate of gross hematuria was significantly higher (P = 0.042, Exp[B] = 7.889) and the rate of fatty infiltration of the Retzius space was significantly lower (P = 0.006, Exp[B] = 0.028) in patients with urachal carcinoma than in ...

Associations of lifestyle and diet with the risk of nasopharyngeal carcinoma in Singapore: a case-control study.
CONCLUSION: Smoking (currently and ever-smoked) and consuming salted vegetables once a week or more were lifestyle risk factors for NPC, and changes of these factors for the better may reduce the risk of NPC. PMID: 28063457 [PubMed - in process] (Source: Chinese Journal of Cancer)

Prognostic factors and failure patterns in non-metastatic nasopharyngeal carcinoma after intensity-modulated radiotherapy.
CONCLUSIONS: The key failure pattern for NPC was distant metastasis in the IMRT era. With changes in diagnostic and therapeutic technologies as well as treatment modalities, the significant prognostic parameters for local control have also been altered substantially.
