Systematic analyses of glutamine and glutamate metabolisms across different cancer types.
CONCLUSIONS: We comprehensively predicted the roles of glutamine and glutamate metabolisms in selected metabolic pathways in cancer tissues versus control tissues, which may lead to novel approaches to therapeutic development targeted at glutamine and/or glutamate metabolism. However, our predictions need further functional validation. PMID: 29116024 [PubMed - in process] (Source: Chinese Journal of Cancer)

Conditional survival in patients with gallbladder cancer.
CONCLUSIONS: T and M categories were significant prognostic factors even 5 years after the initial diagnosis, whereas local treatments at the time of diagnosis were not, suggesting that patients with GB cancer at high risks might need further adjuvant therapy after primary treatments. The combined analysis of CSS and cancer-specific CS rates offered more accurate survival information for patients who have already survived a certain period of time after diagnosis. The influence of stage at diagnosis and molecular subtype on breast cancer patient survival: a hospital-based multi-center study.
CONCLUSIONS: Survival of breast cancer patients varied significantly by stage and molecular subtype. Cancer screening is encouraged for the early detection and early diagnosis of breast cancer. More advanced therapies and health care policies are needed on HER2 and triple-negative subtypes. PMID: 29070080 [PubMed - in process] (Source: Chinese Journal of Cancer)

Hepatic artery infusion chemotherapy using mFOLFOX versus transarterial chemoembolization for massive unresectable hepatocellular carcinoma: a prospective non-randomized study.
CONCLUSIONS: HAIC with mFOLFOX yielded significantly better treatment responses and less serious toxicity than did TACE. HAIC might represent a feasible and promising first-line treatment for patients with massive unresectable HCC. PMID: 29061175 [PubMed - in process] (Source: Chinese Journal of Cancer)

Clinicopathologic features and treatment efficacy of Chinese patients with BRAF-mutated metastatic colorectal cancer: a retrospective observational study.
CONCLUSIONS: BRAF V600E mutations were commonly identified in right-sided tumors and showed a high incidence of peritoneal and distant lymph nodes metastases. This subtype of mCRC was characterized by short OS and unique patterns of metastasis. Compared with standard treatment regimens, the FOLFOXIRI regimen had acceptable and manageable toxicities and favorable efficacy on patients with BRAF-mutated mCRC. The prognostic value of C-X-C motif chemokine receptor 4 in patients with sporadic malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumors.
CONCLUSION: High CXCR4 expression may define a specific subtype of sporadic MPNST with favorable prognosis. PMID: 29020982 [PubMed - in process] (Source: Chinese Journal of Cancer)

Pathologic response after preoperative therapy predicts prognosis of Chinese colorectal cancer patients with liver metastases.
CONCLUSIONS: We found that the evaluation of pathologic response may predict the prognosis of Chinese colorectal cancer patients with liver metastases after preoperative chemotherapy. Small tumor diameter, long-duration chemotherapy, left primary tumor, and decreased serum CEA level after chemotherapy are associated with increased pathologic response rates. Tripartite motif-containing 3 (TRIM3) inhibits tumor growth and metastasis of liver cancer.
CONCLUSIONS: TRIM3 plays a tumor-suppressing role in the regulation of liver cancer development by reducing cell proliferation through cell cycle arrest at the G0/G1 phase. PMID: 28950898 [PubMed - in process] (Source: Chinese Journal of Cancer)

Effects of dosimetric inadequacy on local control and toxicities in the patients with T4 nasopharyngeal carcinoma extending into the intracranial space and treated with intensity-modulated radiotherapy plus chemotherapy.
CONCLUSIONS: With relative underdosed IMRT plus effective chemotherapy, the patients achieved satisfactory local control with few late toxicities of the central nervous system. Determining the acceptable extent of dosimetric inadequacy requires further exploration. PMID: 28931426 [PubMed - in process] (Source: Chinese Journal of Cancer)

Efficacy and safety of controlled-release oxycodone/naloxone versus controlled-release oxycodone in Korean patients with cancer-related pain: a randomized controlled trial.
CONCLUSIONS: OXN-CR was non-inferior to OX-CR in terms of pain reduction after 4 weeks of treatment and had a similar safety profile. Studies in larger populations of Korean patients with cancer-related pain are needed to further investigate the effectiveness of OXN-CR for long-term pain control and constipation alleviation. Medical expenditure for esophageal cancer in China: a 10-year multicenter retrospective survey (2002-2011).
CONCLUSIONS: These conservative estimates suggested that medical expenditures for esophageal cancer in China substantially increased in the last 10 years, treatment for early-stage esophageal cancer costs less than that for advanced cases, and spending on drugs continued to account for a considerable proportion of the overall expenditure.
