Right- and left-sided colorectal cancers respond differently to cetuximab.
CONCLUSIONS: The addition of cetuximab to chemotherapy in both first- and second-line treatments of mCRC may only benefit patients with primary LSCRC. PMID: 26111811 [PubMed - in process] (Source: Chinese Journal of Cancer)

Surgery with versus without preoperative concurrent chemoradiotherapy for mid/low rectal cancer: an interim analysis of a prospective, randomized trial.
CONCLUSIONS: Preliminary results indicated no significant differences in the DFS, OS, or functional sphincter preservation rates between the TME and CCRT + TME groups. However, preoperative CCRT with XELOX yielded a high pCR rate. Newer techniques are needed to improve the staging accuracy, and further investigation is warranted. Impact of primary tumor volume and location on the prognosis of patients with locally recurrent nasopharyngeal carcinoma.
CONCLUSIONS: A new staging system has been proposed, with T3 tumors being down-staged to T2 and with the tumor volume being incorporated into the staging, which may lead to an improved evaluation of these tumors. This new system can be used to guide the treatment strategy for different risk groups of recurrent NPC. PMID: 26063113 [PubMed - in process] (Source: Chinese Journal of Cancer)

TLR3 gene polymorphisms in cancer: a systematic review and meta-analysis.
CONCLUSION: After data integration, our findings suggest that the TLR3 rs5743312 polymorphism may contribute to an increased cancer risk. PMID: 26063214 [PubMed - in process] (Source: Chinese Journal of Cancer)

Qualitative visual trichotomous assessment improves the value of fluorine-18 fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography/computed tomography in predicting the prognosis of diffuse large B-cell lymphoma.
CONCLUSIONS: Compared with the Deauville criteria, using the QVTA criteria for interpreting post-treatment PET/CT scans of DLBCL patients is likely to reduce the number of false positive results. The QVTA criteria are feasible for therapeutic outcome evaluation and can be used to guide risk-adapted therapy. PMID: 26063296 [PubMed - in process] (Source: Chinese Journal of Cancer)

Transcatheter arterial chemoembolization combined with CT-guided percutaneous thermal ablation versus hepatectomy in the treatment of hepatocellular carcinoma.
CONCLUSION: The combination of TACE and CT-guided percutaneous thermal ablation for HCC improves survival of HCC patients compared with hepatectomy. PMID: 26063407 [PubMed - in process] (Source: Chinese Journal of Cancer)

Elevated peripheral blood lymphocyte-to-monocyte ratio predicts a favorable prognosis in the patients with metastatic nasopharyngeal carcinoma.
CONCLUSION: We identified pretreatment LMR as an independent prognostic factor for patients with metastatic NPC. Independent validation of our findings is needed. PMID: 26067059 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher] (Source: Chinese Journal of Cancer)

Hepatocellular adenoma with malignant transformation in male patients with non-cirrhotic livers.
CONCLUSION: Our results indicate that resection would be advised even if the presumptive diagnosis is adenoma smaller than 5 cm in diameter, especially in male patients. PMID: 26058379 [PubMed - in process] (Source: Chinese Journal of Cancer)

Hepatitis B virus reactivation and hepatitis in diffuse large B-cell lymphoma patients with resolved hepatitis B receiving rituximab-containing chemotherapy: risk factors and survival.
CONCLUSIONS: DLBCL patients with resolved hepatitis B may have a higher risk of developing HBV reactivation and hepatitis than HBsAg-negative/HBcAb-negative patients. Close monitoring and prompt antiviral therapy are required in these patients. PMID: 26058465 [PubMed - in process] (Source: Chinese Journal of Cancer)

Dosimetric benefit to organs at risk following margin reductions in nasopharyngeal carcinoma treated with intensity-modulated radiation therapy.
CONCLUSIONS: Significant improvements in OAR sparing were observed with margin reduction, in addition to improvement in target coverage. The parotids benefited most from the online imaging-guided approach. PMID: 26058563 [PubMed - in process] (Source: Chinese Journal of Cancer)

Impact of oral anti-hepatitis B therapy on the survival of patients with hepatocellular carcinoma initially treated with chemoembolization.
CONCLUSION: Antiviral treatment is associated with prolonged OS time after chemoembolization for HCC, especially in patients with early-stage tumors. PMID: 26058595 [PubMed - in process] (Source: Chinese Journal of Cancer)

Incidence trend of nasopharyngeal carcinoma from 1987 to 2011 in Sihui County, Guangdong Province, South China: an age-period-cohort analysis.
CONCLUSIONS: The incidence trends for NPC remained generally stable in Sihui from 1987 to 2011, with an increase from 2003 to 2009. The relative risks of NPC increased in younger females. PMID: 26058679 [PubMed - in process] (Source: Chinese Journal of Cancer)

Association of the Asp312Asn and Lys751Gln polymorphisms in the XPD gene with the risk of non-Hodgkin's lymphoma: evidence from a meta-analysis.
Authors: Chen S, Zhu JH, Wang F, Huang SY, Xue WQ, Cui Z, He J, Jia WH Abstract Polymorphisms in DNA repair genes may alter DNA repair capacity and, consequently, lead to genetic instability and carcinogenesis. Several studies have investigated the association of the Asp312Asn and Lys751Gln polymorphisms in the xeroderma pigmentosum complementation group D (XPD) gene with the risk of non-Hodgkin's lymphoma (NHL), but the conclusions have been inconsistent. Therefore, we performed this meta-analysis to more precisely estimate these relationships. A systematic literature search was performed using the PubMed...
