The good, the bad, and the ugly of luminex donor ‐specific crossmatch
The presence of donor‐specific antibodies directed against human leukocyte antigen significantly influences renal transplant because of antibody‐mediated rejection. We performed the screening of pre‐renal transplant patients for preformed anti‐HLA antibodies using anti‐human globulin augmented‐complement‐dependent lymphocytotoxicity crossmatch (AHG‐CDCXm), luminex donor‐specific crossmatch (LumXm) and HLA antibody screening. Seven hundred and fifty‐four patients were assessed for LumXm. HLA antibody screening was possible in 325 out of 754 cases. All the three investigations viz. CDCXm, HLA antibody scr...

NKG2D ‐ligands: putting everything under the same umbrella can be misleading
NKG2D is a key receptor for the activation of immune effector cells, mainly Natural Killer cells and T lymphocytes, in infection, cancer and autoimmune diseases. Since the detection of ligands for NKG2D in sera of cancer patients is, in many human models, indicative of prognosis, a large number of studies have been undertaken to improve understanding of the biology regulating this receptor and its ligands, with the aim of translating this knowledge into clinical practice. Although it is becoming clear that the NKG2D system can be used as a tool for diagnosis and manipulated for therapy, some questions remain open due to th...

The HLA ‐G 14 bp insertion/deletion polymorphism and its association with soluble HLA‐G levels in women with recurrent miscarriages
In this study, 202 recurrent miscarriage (RM) women with two or more than two consecutive miscarriages, their 202 partners and 204 fertile control women with at least one live birth and no miscarriages were analyzed for 14 bp insertion/deletion polymorphism. Soluble HLA‐G (sHLA‐G) levels were also determined and compared between randomly selected 111 RM women and 111 control women using QAYEE‐Bio ELISA kits. Student’s t test and χ2 test were used to depict the statistical differences. The results showed no significant differences for 14 bp allele and genotype frequencies between the study groups. However, our ...
