Ovarian preservation in locally advanced cervical cancer undergoing neoadjuvant chemotherapy and radical surgery: our experience and analysis of the literature.
CONCLUSIONS: Our data suggest that ovarian preservation at the time of surgery is a safe option among women with LACC after NACT with no detrimental impact on oncologic outcome. Further prospective studies are warranted. PMID: 29600835 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher] (Source: Minerva Ginecologica)

Cryobiology of ovarian tissues: known knowns and known unknowns.
Authors: Devireddy RV Abstract To model the cryobiological responses of cells and tissues, the cellular membrane permeability characteristics are often measured at suprazero temperatures as well as at subzero temperatures with and without the presence of extra-cellular ice. These measured membrane permeability characteristics are then used to predict the responses of cells and tissues for a given thermal insult with the ultimate aim of mitigating the damage caused during the freeze-thaw process. This brief review articles summarizes efforts from my research group over the past 15 years as related to cryobi...

[Hydrating cleansing: efficacy and tolerability of new formulations with hyaluronic acid 0.2% for intimate hygiene in the woman in fertile age and menopause].
Authors: Albani F, Bonfigli A, Consolaro F, Rigano L, Campisi M Abstract Dehydration of genital areas, known as vaginal dryness, frequently affects woman's life, from fertile to postmenopausal period, and must be treated with specific products, including proper intimate cleansing. Based on that, two new cleanser formulations, characterized by Hyaluronic Acid 0.2% as main ingredient, have been developed (Hyalo Gyn® Intimo Active and Hyalo Gyn® Intimo Advance), with the aim to provide an effective hydration of the vaginal, vulvar, perianal and anal areas beyond guaranteeing daily intimate hygiene. [Customization of hormonal contraception].
Authors: DE Leo V, Cianci A, DI Carlo C, Cappelli V, Fruzzetti F Abstract In the last few years new oral contraceptives have been marketed showing a better safety profile for women. They are the result of important changes made to the old compounds. As far as the estrogenic component, with the aim of decreasing side effects, the dose of ethinyl estradiol has been reduced and synthetic estrogens have been replaced by natural estradiol, further improving the safety profile. Also the progestin component in the last years has been changed in terms of dose, endocrine and metabolic characteristics. Levonorgestre...

Current management of ovarian endometriomas.
Authors: Muzii L, DI Tucci C, DI Mascio D, DI Feliciantonio M, Capri O, Pietrangeli D, Rech F, Benedetti Panici P Abstract The choice of treatment in case of ovarian endometriomas is one of the most discussed topics in Reproductive Medicine. Management options include expectancy, medical treatment, surgery, in-vitro fertilization (IVF), or a combination of the above. The main presenting symptom, i.e. pain or infertility, usually guide the choice of treatment. Medical treatment is usually preferred as the first line option when pain is the associated symptom, whereas surgery or IVF are preferred in case of ...

Sentinel lymph node mapping in endometrial cancer: a systematic review and meta-analysis.
CONCLUSIONS: SLN mapping is a feasible and accurate alternative to stage patients with endometrial cancer. Utilizing indocyanine green results in the highest SLN detection rates. Future studies should prospectively examine the impact of SLN mapping on progression-free and overall survival. PMID: 29185673 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher] (Source: Minerva Ginecologica)

Electromechanical Morcellators' black-box warning: tribulations, expectations and solutions.
Authors: Sarkar P, Mikhail E, Hoyte L, Plosker S, Imudia A Abstract Laparoscopic minimally invasive gynecologic surgery (MIGS) for benign conditions results in decreased morbidity, and faster recovery, compared with laparotomy. Tissue fragmentation by electromechanical morcellation permits the removal of large specimens through small laparoscopic incisions. Since the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) published its safety warning about the risk of power morcellators spreading cancer during fibroid surgery in 2014, power morcellation has become rare. MIGS for fibroids and other large tissue specimens has...
