Fertility preservation in female cancer patients-state of the art.
Authors: Findeklee S, Radosa JC, Takacs ZF, Hamza A, Sima RM, Solomayer EF, Sklavounos P Abstract Protecting fertility in the presence of cancer has become highly significant, as the desire to give birth to a child is increasingly postponed to later in life, and long-term survival with cancer has increased. A variety of fertility-preserving methods have been developed. To find them we did a literature search in Medline with the term "female fertility preservation in cancer" in December 2017. 2381 different publications were found. After screening the abstracts 78 publications in English, French or German l...

Application of failure mode and effect analysis (FMEA) in total laparoscopic hysterectomy (TLH) in benign conditions.
CONCLUSIONS: It is our opinion that the systematic implementation of the FMEA model can reduce the risk of human error during laparoscopic surgery, improving patient safety. PMID: 30938115 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher] (Source: Minerva Ginecologica)

Knowledge, attitudes, beliefs and practices of obstetrics-gynecologists on seasonal influenza and pertussis immunizations in pregnant women: preliminary results from North-Western Italy.
CONCLUSIONS: Sampled OBGYN were largely favorable towards vaccination of pregnant women. As knowledge of official recommendations was identified as a main predictor of appropriate behavior at least for Tdap practice, future educational interventions could eventually improve immunization rates. Double stimulation in the same ovarian cycle (DuoStim) is an intriguing strategy to improve oocyte yield and the number of competent embryos in a short timeframe.
Authors: Vaiarelli A, Cimadomo D, Argento C, Ubaldi N, Trabucco E, Drakopoulos P, Venturella R, Conforti A, Alviggi C, Rienzi L, Ubaldi FM Abstract Proper ovarian stimulation regimens are crucial for any patient undergoing IVF. However, maximizing the oocyte yield in advanced maternal age patients with poor or suboptimal response is still a challenge. In fact, no standard treatment has been outlined yet to manage these women. Across the last years, an improved efficiency of the IVF units via blastocyst culture, vitrification and reliable embryo selection approaches paved the way to the investigation of nov...

Global strategies for cervical cancer prevention and screening.
Authors: Pimple S, Mishra G Abstract Cervical cancer is highly preventable and can be easily treated if detected at early stages. However there is disproportionate high burden of cervical cancer incidence and mortality in low-middle income (LMIC) country settings that lack organised screening and prevention programs. Robust evidence for prevention and screening of cervical cancer is currently available. However there are barriers for country specific adoption and implementation. These pose unique challenges such as organising prevention and screening services delivery through the current health infrastruct...

Three-dimensional printing models on reproductive surgery and human reproduction: systematic review and critical applications.
CONCLUSIONS: 3D models for human reproduction are feasible. They might improve assisted reproductive techniques, help in pre-surgical planning for reproductive surgeries, and provide accurate measures of ovarian reserve. Besides, we see future applications in endometrioma research and in the fabrication of devices, such as embryo transfer catheter and a 3D printed embryo. Combination of weekly topotecan and gemcitabine as a salvage treatment in patients with recurrent ovarian cancer: a phase I study.
CONCLUSIONS: The weekly administration of gemcitabine/topotecan regimen in patients with pretreated metastatic ovarian cancer is an active chemotherapy combination, even in heavily pretreated patients, with a manageable toxicity profile which merits further investigation. Understanding sexual pain in endometriosis.
Authors: Aerts L, Grangier L, Dallenbach P, Wenger JM, Streuli I, Bianchi-Demicheli F, Pluchino N Abstract Sexual dysfunctions, particularly sexual pain, are common in adult women of all ages. In patients with endometriosis, a chronic gynaecological pain condition affecting women of reproductive age, sexual pain is the third most common symptom. Multiple biological factors are involved in endometriosis-related sexual pain including tissue damage, inflammation, hormonal changes, alterations within the peripheral and central nervous system and pelvic floor muscle dysfunctions. Conceptual models of sexual pai...

Role of a natural integrator based on lipoic acid, palmitoiletanolamide and myrrh in the treatment of chronic pelvic pain and endometriosis.
Authors: De Leo V, Cagnacci A, Cappelli V, Biasioli A, Leonardi D, Seracchioli R Abstract Dysmenorrhea and chronic pelvic pain occur in a significantly higher percentage in women with endometriosis; this benign condition has an incidence ranging from 5 to 10% in the general population, while 35% to 50% of infertile women are affected. Treatment of the symptoms demands integrated approaches with the use of anti-inflammatory substances or drugs and lifestyle changes, including attention to diet. The use of traditional anti-inflammatory drugs over the long term is not very successful because of the fear of si...
