Intrapartum care quality indicators: a literature review.
CONCLUSIONS: We identified 80 indicators that should be used to measure the quality of low risk intrapartum care. Although the majority of indicators we could monitor through hospital databases and the Italian Birth Register - CeDAP are outcome indicators, it is important to give attention also to process indicators that measure the activities performed and whether or not they are evidence-based. For a low risk population they could measure adherence with guidelines that promote and support the normality of the process. [Role of vitamin D in female reproduction].
Authors: DE Leo V, Cappelli V, Morgante G, DI Sabatino A Abstract La vit. In tutti questi tessuti bersaglio...

Adenomyosis: fertility and obstetric outcome. A comprehensive literature review.
Authors: Buggio L, Monti E, Gattei U, Dridi D, Vercellini P Abstract Adenomyosis is a benign condition characterized by the presence of endometrial glands and stroma deep within the myometrium. In recent years, the potential negative impact of adenomyosis on in vitro fertilization clinical outcomes has gained momentum, as well as, the possible link of this condition with obstetrical complications. The aim of this narrative review is to elucidate the possible association between uterine adenomyosis, infertility, and poor obstetrical outcomes. Several theories have been proposed to clarify the potential harm...

Upcoming strategies in obstetrics: how the technology of clinical audit may reduce cesarean birth.
CONCLUSIONS: Clinical audit is a powerful instrument that can improve standards of care. In our Unit, clinical audit on elective cesarean leads to the identification of an excess in repeated cesareans and a significant reduction of them. However, to realize an effective improvement we are planning furthers audits. PMID: 29082725 [PubMed - in process] (Source: Minerva Ginecologica)

[Differential diagnosis and management of abnormal uterine bleeding in adolescence].
Authors: Motta T, Laganà AS, Valenti G, LA Rosa VL, Noventa M, Vitagliano A, Chiofalo B, Rapisarda AM, Rossetti D, Vitale SG Abstract Abnormal uterine bleeding (AUB) is defined as any atypical genital bleeding originating from the uterine cavity, without the characteristics of normal menstrual period. AUB is an important symptom both for adolescents and their parents, and it usually leads to a state of anxiety. Although about 95% of AUB could be considered as a dysfunctional disorder, AUB requires well-defined diagnostic procedures in order to detect a physical cause, ruling out complex or systemic diseas...

Ultrasonography reappraisal of tubal patency in Assisted Reproduction Technology patients: comparison between 2D and 3D- sonohysterosalpingography. A pilot study.
CONCLUSIONS: In the diagnosis of tubal occlusion, in the high-risk population, it seems advisable to us using the 3D-HyFoSy as the first-level examination, while, in low-risk patients, if the tubes appear obstructed in 2D-HyFoSy, the 3D-HyFoSy should be indicated before submitting patients to operative laparoscopy. Pregnancy outcomes in women with endometriosis.
CONCLUSIONS: In our population, endometriosis was not found as a risk factor for obstetrical complications or adverse perinatal outcomes. Larger population based cohort studies are needed to clarify the relationship between endometriosis and adverse pregnancy outcomes. Flexible CO2 laser fiber: first look at the learning curve required in gynecological laparoscopy training.
CONCLUSIONS: Our study found that residents without surgical experience show better skills with the flexible CO2 laser fiber delivery system compared to the standard line-of-sight CO2 laser system after a two-month training period with gynecological laparoscopic box. According to our results, flexible CO2 laser fiber delivery system is technically accessible and holds a potential in gynecological surgery. Epidemiology and pathogenesis of fulminant viral hepatitis in pregnant women: a review.
Authors: Tosone G, Simeone D, Spera AM, Viceconte G, Bianco V, Orlando R Abstract The pregnancy-associated immunological and hormonal changes may alter the immune response to infectious agents, including hepatitis viruses. Therefore, this phenomenon may affect the clinical course and the outcome of acute viral hepatitis in pregnant women. For this reason, we have focused on epidemiological and pathogenetic aspects of the fulminant liver failure caused by acute viral hepatitis reviewing PubMED in April of 2017. Although all the viruses might cause a fulminant AVH in a pregnant woman, the large majority of f...
