The actual role of robotics in the management of endometriosis.
Authors: Cela V, Obino ME, Sergiampietri C, Simi G, Papini F, Pinelli S, Freschi L, Artini PG Abstract The advent of robot-assisted laparoscopy (RAL) represents an important innovation and has opened new perspectives for treatment of endometriosis, in particular in deep infiltrating endometriosis (DIE). RAL could offer several technical advantages in treating this complex disease, such as 3D vision, tremor filtration and better surgical ergonomy, would be able to improve surgical performances without increasing in surgical time, blood loss, intra- and postoperative complications and it reduces the rates of...

An update on the biological markers of endometriosis.
CONCLUSIONS: CA 125 remains the most recommended marker for suspicion of endometriosis and follow-up. Other markers, such as CA 19-9, CA 72-4, and endometrial cells in peripheral blood, have more value for differentiating endometriosis from other pathologies, while circulating micro-RNA could help clarify the endometrial stem cell's implication in its pathogeny. Finally, other new urinary markers could be used in early diagnostic and screening strategies. PMID: 28271701 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher] (Source: Minerva Ginecologica)

Update on endometriosis pathogenesis.
Authors: Czyzyk A, Podfigurna A, Szeliga A, Meczekalski B Abstract Endometriosis is a chronic, inflammatory, condition of high incidence and serious reproductive and general health consequences. Understanding the pathogenesis of endometriosis is crucial for proper diagnostic and ordering the most effective treatment. Even though there is a large body of data regarding this pathology our understanding of the pathogenesis of this disease remains incomplete. The aim of this review is to summarize contemporary data regarding pathogenesis of endometriosis. Current data regarding endometrial origin, metaplastic ...

Is there a role of single port laparoscopy in the treatment of endometriosis?
CONCLUSIONS: Currently, it has been shown that most of the gynecologic operations are feasible using the LESS approach. So, this approach has a role to play in the treatment of endometriosis too, especially concerning the most common manifestations of the disease. However, more extensive research is required to properly evaluate single port access techniques to conventional minimally invasive ones in the treatment of the different manifestations of endometriosis, concerning short term as well as long term outcomes of the treatment, including the ones associated to fertility. The association between the regular use of early-term labor induction and improved birth outcomes: new evidence from an Italian hospital.
CONCLUSIONS: Exposure to high levels of early term preventive labor induction was associated with a lower group cesarean delivery rate and improvement in several other major birth outcomes. An adequately powered randomized controlled trial is needed to further explore this alternative method of care. PMID: 28177209 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher] (Source: Minerva Ginecologica)

[Pregnancy after bariatric surgery].
Authors: Pepe F, DE Luca F, Stracquadanio M, Garraffo C, Santonocito VC, Privitera A Abstract Pregnancy after bariatric surgery has some peculiarities related to obesity, type of surgery, amount of weight loss, time elapsed from the surgery and adherence to medical prescriptions. Pregnant woman is at risk of nutritional deficiencies and it is unclear whether there is an increased incidence of intestinal complications during pregnancy after bariatric surgery and whether this kind of complications are more frequent during cesarean section. The fetus is at high risk of prematurity and fetal growth restriction...
