A Bombyx homolog of ovo is a segmentation gene that acts downstream of Bm-wnt1(Bombyx wnt1 homolog)
Publication date: January 2018 Source:Gene Expression Patterns, Volume 27 Author(s): Hajime Nakao Insect embryogenesis is divided into long and short/intermediate germ types. The long germ type may exhibit Drosophila-like hierarchical segmentation mechanisms, whereas the short/intermediate type assumes some repeating mechanisms that are considered to be ancestral. Embryogenesis in Bombyx mori possesses both characteristics. Here, Bombyx ovo homolog (Bm-ovo) was identified as a gene involved in segmentation. Ovo is a Drosophila gene that encodes a zinc finger transcription factor and studies on its homolog functions in o...

Expression analyzes of early factors in midbrain differentiation programs
Publication date: Available online 27 September 2017 Source:Gene Expression Patterns Author(s): Simone Mesman, Sonja J. Krüse, Marten P. Smidt Mesodiencephalic dopaminergic (mdDA)1 neurons are born in the ventricular zone (VZ) of the midbrain between E10 and E12. Although these neurons all express specific DA markers like Th and Pitx3, they are subdivided into distinct subsets, each depending on a unique set of transcription factors and signaling cascades for their differentiation. How a neural progenitor commits to an mdDA neuronal cell-fate and how the specification into the different subsets is determined remains ...

Modulation of gene expression by nutritional state and hormones in Bombyx larvae in relation to its growth period
Publication date: Available online 23 August 2017 Source:Gene Expression Patterns Author(s): Bembem Thounaojam, Bela Keshan Insect growth and development are mainly regulated via synchronization of many extrinsic and intrinsic factors such as nutrition and hormones. Previously we have demonstrated that larval growth period influences the effect of insulin on the accumulation of glycogen in the fat body of Bombyx larvae. In the present study we demonstrate that Bombyx larvae at the terminal growth period (TGP, after critical weight) had a significantly greater increase in the expression level of Akt in the fat body than...

Expression and characterization of the zebrafish orthologue of the human FOLR1 gene during embryogenesis
In this report we have identified the expression pattern of the zebrafish gene zgc:165502, located on chromosome 15. Using computational and comparative methods and molecular biology techniques such as reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) and whole mount in situ hybridization (WISH) during embryogenesis, we demonstrate that zgc:165502 is the zebrafish orthologue of the human FOLR1 gene. Understanding when and where FOLR1 orthologues are expressed in different biomedical model organisms such as the zebrafish will help researchers design better experiments to study the endogenous FOLR1 activity. Spatio-temporal expression patterns of Wnt signaling pathway during the development of temporomandibular condylar cartilage
Publication date: Available online 8 August 2017 Source:Gene Expression Patterns Author(s): Kan Chen, Huixin Quan, Gang Chen, Di Xiao There is a growing body of evidence supporting the involvement of the Wnt signaling pathway in various aspects of skeletal and joint development; however, it is unclear whether it is involved in the process of temporomandibular joint development. In order to clarify this issue, we examined the spatio-temporal distribution of mRNAs and proteins of the Wnt family during the formation of the mandibular condylar cartilage at the prenatal and postnatal stages. An in situ hybridization test ...

Effects of interferon tau on endometrial epithelial cells in caprine in  vitro
In this study, IFNT arrested caprine EEC cell cycle in G2 phase and induced cell apoptosis at 1 ng/ml and 10 ng/ml of IFNT. Interestingly, pro-apoptotic protein FAS and PRβ together with anti-apoptotic proteins SP1 and IGF1R were all up-regulated at 1 ng/ml of IFNT. It demonstrated that IFNT at 1 ng/ml might induce caprine EEC apoptosis and keep a balance between apoptosis and proliferation. Furthermore, regulation of HOXA10, COX-2, PRL, PTEN and STAT3 pathway in caprine EECs was likely to be contributed by IFNT at 1 ng/ml to improve the chances for embryo attachment. Differential expression pattern of key regulatory developmental genes in pre-implant zona free cloned vs in vitro fertilized goat embryos
Publication date: Available online 29 June 2017 Source:Gene Expression Patterns Author(s): Dharmendra Kumar, Bikash Chandra Sarkhel The success of Somatic cell nuclear transfer (SCNT) primarily depends on the extent of reprogramming of donor cells genome. The error of reprogramming may lead to inappropriate expression of embryonic genes at any stage of development. Under the present study the relative expression of different genes related to pluripotency (Oct-4 and Nanog), growth factors (IGF-2 and IGF-2R) and DNA methyltransferase gene (Dnmt-1) was evaluated in SCNT embryos at 8–16 cells, morula and blastocyst stag...

Different expression of sox17 gene during gametogenesis between scallop Chlamys farreri and vertebrates
In this study, we cloned a full-length cDNA sequence of sox17 from Zhikong scallop Chlamys farreri, and determined its expression characteristics in gonad at mRNA and protein levels. The cDNA sequence was 2802 bp in length, predicted to encode a protein of 511 amino acids and contained a conservative HMG-box of SOX family, while lacked the C-terminal region of SOX17 comparing to vertebrates. Semi-quantitative RT-PCR showed that C. farreri sox17 (Cf-sox17) mRNA exhibited a different tissue distribution, and the transcript abundance was the highest in the gonads. In situ hybridization determined that the Cf-sox17 mRNA was lo...
