Correlation between epidermal growth factor receptor and MIB-1 index in different grades of astrocytomas
Conclusion: A significant correlation was found between EGFR overexpression and MIB-1 LI in grade II, grade III, and gliobastoma multiform. These may suggest that tumor proliferation, at least in the higher grades of astrocytomas, depends up to some extent on epidermal growth factor and EGFR-related signaling pathways. Immunohistochemical characterization of the molecular subtypes of invasive breast carcinoma in a series of Egyptian female patients with clinicopathologic correlation
Conclusion: The luminal B HER2-negative subtype is the most common molecular subtype among female breast carcinomas at our center. The incidence of basal-like and penta-negative tumors is lower than that in other countries. The luminal subtypes in contrast to HER2-positive molecular subtypes are more likely to present as low-grade and stage tumors. (Source: Egyptian Journal of Pathology)

Estrogen receptors and progesterone receptors expression in endometrial carcinoma in diabetic versus nondiabetic patients
Conclusion: There was no difference in the expression patterns of ER and PR in the glands and stroma between diabetic and nondiabetic EC patients. The parallel expression of both receptors was inversely proportional to the tumor grade. (Source: Egyptian Journal of Pathology)

Differential vascular endothelial growth factor expression in neoplastic and non-neoplastic components of classic Hodgkin’s lymphoma
Background: Although the available treatment modalities for Hodgkin’s lymphoma (HL) are usually successful, a large number of HL patients still relapse after initial therapy. It is, therefore, essential to study the biology of HL, in a trial to improve patients’ outcomes and therapeutic modalities. Angiogenesis is a mandatory step for tumor growth and progression. Vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) is one of the principle angiogenic factors to answer the question, ‘which cells are contributing more in angiogenesis of HL and should be attacked first in tumor therapy?’ The present study aimed to evaluate VEGF ...

The diagnostic utility of carbonic anhydrase IX, α-methylacyl-coenzyme A racemase, and BSND in classifying renal cell carcinoma: an immunohistochemical study
The objective of this study was to evaluate the diagnostic ability of carbonic anhydrase IX (CA IX), α-methylacyl-coenzyme A racemase (AMACR), and Bartter-syndrome, type-4a Sensorineural-deafness & renal dysfunction (BSND) expression in differentiating the three main types of RCC – cc-RCC, pp-RCC, and cp-RCC. Patients and methods: Immunohistochemical expressions of CA IX, AMACR, and BSND were assessed in 50 paraffin blocks from patients with RCC. Results: CA IX was significantly positive in cases of cc-RCC (P (Source: Egyptian Journal of Pathology)

The role of immunohistochemical expression of OCT-4 and SOX2 as predictors of recurrence and progression in superficial urinary bladder carcinoma
Conclusion: The present study reveals that tumor size is an important clinical risk factor for tumor recurrence and progression. Positive OCT-4 expression may be a predictive marker in NMIBC progression. More prospective studies on different stages of UBC are needed to clarify the potential role of OCT-4 in the biology and behavior of UBC. However, SOX2 has limited role in early-stage bladder cancer. Autophagy-related molecules, light chain 3B, p62, and beclin 1, as prognostic markers in triple-negative breast cancer
Background and aim: Triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) is associated with aggressive behavior and poor clinical outcome. Therefore, identification of biomarkers predicting prognosis may help to improve the clinical outcome of TNBC. Autophagy is a process of lysosomal degradation and recycling of intracellular components. It plays an important role in normal cells as well as in malignant cells. The aim of this study was to investigate the pattern of expression of autophagy-related molecules, light chain 3B (LC3B), p62, and beclin 1, their relationship with clinicopathological features, and their prognostic value in TNBC ...

Stromal expression of CD10 in invasive breast carcinoma and its correlation with clinicopathological parameters
Conclusion: From the present study, it can be concluded that CD10 stromal expression may be implicated in breast cancer tumorigenesis. CD10 is associated with poor prognostic indicators in breast cancer, and thus may contribute to tumor aggressiveness and progression. CD10 expression is a potential poor prognostic factor in breast cancer and might help identify a group of patients with higher propensity to tumor recurrence, which might aid in patient management. Evaluation of SYK protein expression in treated versus untreated retinoblastoma
Conclusion: Expression of SYK in all retinoblastoma cases makes it a promising target for therapy. SYK expression was not correlated with any pathologic HRF. Neoadjuvant chemotherapy did not affect SYK expression. (Source: Egyptian Journal of Pathology)

Expression of cathepsin D and BCL-2 in colorectal carcinoma, and their correlation with proliferation indices
Conclusion: Cathepsin D immunoreactivity was detected in a high percentage of cancer cells and stromal cells of CRCs and correlated with aggressive parameters, which points to its role in dissemination of cancer cells. BCL-2 expression was detected at a relatively lower percentage; however, it correlated with high proliferation indices, suggesting its role in the progression of CRC. Further studies are required to rule out a link between cathepsin D and BCL-2 in CRC for the potential of therapeutic targeting by GX15-070. (Source: Egyptian Journal of Pathology)

The utility of immunohistochemical expression of glypican-3 (GPC3) and enhancer of zeste homologue-2 (EZH2) protein in the diagnosis of liver nodules
Conclusion: GPC3 can be used as a first-line marker for differential diagnoses of HCCs from nonmalignant nodules, CCs, and metastases (accuracy rate: 90.38, 83.67, and 88.89%, respectively). In HCC, overexpression of GPC3 is associated with poor prognostic factors such as large tumor size and high tumor grade. EZH2 is a reliable marker for HCCs compared with nonmalignant nodules (accuracy rate: 92.31%). However, EZH2 is not specific for HCC as all other examined hepatic malignancies were positive as well. Estrogen receptor β, a potential prognostic and therapeutic marker in urothelial carcinoma, is altered by associating schistosomiasis
Conclusion: The current study reports for the first time the statistically significant decline in the immunohistochemical expression of ER-β in UCs associated with schistosomiasis. A prospective validation of these findings may further establish the utility of ER-β as a marker for prognosis or possible target for therapy. (Source: Egyptian Journal of Pathology)
