Validity of special AT-rich sequence-binding protein 2 in distinguishing metastatic mucinous carcinomas of colorectal origin from primary ovarian mucinous carcinomas
Conclusion SATB2 has more specificity and diagnostic accuracy than CDX2 and CK20 for the diagnosis of metastatic mucinous CRC. SATB2 in combination with CDX2 or CK20 increases their specificity and accuracy for differentiating metastatic mucinous CRC from primary ovarian mucinous carcinoma. Correlation between synuclein gamma and angiogenesis in colon cancer
Background Colorectal cancer is one of the leading causes of death worldwide. Synuclein gamma (SNCG) is undetectable in normal tissue or benign lesions and shows high expression in cancer. This stage-specific expression suggested that this protein may be linked to the process of tumorigenesis. Endoglin (CD105), modulates angiogenesis by controlling of endothelial cell proliferation. Aim of the work To analyze the immunohistochemical expression of SNCG in tumorigensis phases of colon cancer and its correlation with angiogensis and clincopathological features. Materials and methods By immunohistocemical method, the e...

Immunohistochemical study of carbonic anhydrase IX and claudin-1 in clear cell renal cell carcinoma
Conclusion Both CAIX and claudin-1 are associated with some indicators of bad prognosis in CCRCC. They could be used as prognostic markers. Claudin-1 may be a factor of invasiveness in CCRCC. There was no relation between CAIX and claudin-1in CCRCC. (Source: Egyptian Journal of Pathology)

Special AT-rich binding protein 1 and Dachshund homolog 1 expression in bladder carcinomas and their role in epithelial–mesenchymal transition
Conclusion Both SATB1 and DACH1 could be promising candidate biomarkers that might serve as prognostic factors for the prediction of tumor aggressiveness and an excellent target for bladder cancer therapy in Egyptian patients. (Source: Egyptian Journal of Pathology)

Prognostic and predictive values of Twist-1 and Cripto-1 expressions in non-small cell carcinoma of lung: an immunohistochemical study
Background Metastasis is considered the most serious and fatal outcome of patients with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Twist-1 and Cripto-1 expression and their roles in induction of cancer metastases have been extensively studied as factors that are responsible for induction of the epithelial-mesenchymal transition and carcinoma metastasis, yet little information is known about expression of these proteins in NSCLC tissues and their prognostic roles in patients with such cancer. The aim of this work is to detect the pathological, prognostic, and clinical relevance of tissue Twist-1 and Cripto-1 expressions in NSCL...

Fatty acid synthase expression in prostatic adenocarcinoma: correlation with Gleason score and specimen type
Conclusion FASN expression in Pca tends to be more expressed in high Gleason score. FASN antibody has been found to be valuable for diagnosing the Pca and must be more addressed with other parameters including prostate-specific antigen, staging, and clinical correlation. Expression of TMPRSS2/ERG oncoprotein in prostatic carcinoma: a correlative study with Gleason score and specimen type
Conclusion The higher the Gleason score, the lower the expression of ERG. Although ERG is encountered in the pathogenesis of Pca, it is not common to be overexpressed in Pca specimens, either radical prostatectomy or core biopsies. Despite many limitations of our study such as low number of specimens, the importance of ERG in prostatic carcinoma has to be further studied in association with other parameters such as PSA level and cancer staging. Evaluation of immunohistochemical staining of securin and Ki-67 in invasive breast carcinoma using the semiquantitative method and immune ratio: a comparative study
Conclusion These results suggest that securin may have value superior to Ki-67 in identifying invasive breast carcinoma patients with poor clinical outcome. (Source: Egyptian Journal of Pathology)

Human epidermal growth factor 2 status in gastric adenocarcinoma: a retrospective study to assess the susceptibility for trastuzumab treatment
Objective We are aiming to study the expression of human epidermal growth factor 2 (HER2) in gastric carcinoma (GC) to estimate the susceptibility for target therapy by trastuzumab hoping to improve the outcome especially in late stage cases. Materials and methods This is a retrospective study that included 50 cases diagnosed as GC in Benha University hospital. Our study included an examination of the endoscopic biopsies of 40 cases and the resection specimens of 10 cases. We assessed HER2 status by application of immunohistochemistry to all the cases. When cases were equivocal on immunohistochemistry, we applied fluo...

Immunohistochemical evaluation of the epithelial–mesenchymal transition profile: Twist, E-cadherin, and vimentin in colorectal carcinoma
Conclusion Cytoplasmic Twist overexpression was negatively correlated with E-cadherin and positively correlated with vimentin in CRC and this confirms the EMT signature in CRC. Nucleocytoplasmic Twist expression was associated with poor prognostic factors in primary CRC, while cytoplasmic Twist expression was associated with poor prognostic factors in metastatic CRC. Hypoxia-inducible factor-1α expression in colorectal carcinoma
Conclusion HIF-1α immunohistochemical expression is significantly correlated with tumor invasiveness (T) and modified Dukes’ classification that suggests the possible role of HIF-1α in tumor invasion, metastasis, and as a prognostic marker for prediction of the behavior of CRC cases. SurePath liquid-based cytology versus conventional smears for interpretation of serous effusion fluids: a study of 104 cases
Background In daily practice, cytological diagnosis of serous effusion on conventional preparation can be challenging due to many drawbacks. SurePath liquid-based cytology (LBC) can improve diagnostic accuracy. The aim of the current study was to compare seven cytomorphological criteria, sensitivity and diagnostic accuracy between the conventional and BD SurePath LBC preparations in serous effusion samples. Materials and methods This retrospective study included 104 serous effusion samples. All materials were processed using both conventional cytological preparation and BD SurePath LBC technique. Clinicoradiological f...

Metallothionein and Ki 67 expression compared to nuclear score in differentiating adrenocortical neoplasms
Conclusion The expression of both MT and Ki-67 antigen is significantly higher in adrenocortical carcinomas than in adrenocortical adenomas, so these markers can be considered as reliable indicators of malignancy in a suspicious adrenocortical tumor. A new nuclear score was created by the present study to show the importance of the nuclear features as a differentiating point between adenoma and carcinoma as well as the prognostic significance of that score in patient survival and clinical outcome.
