Evaluation of fine-needle aspiration cytology role in diagnosis of various breast lesions and its diagnostic pitfalls
Conclusion Mucinous carcinoma is an important diagnostic pitfall on cytology with benign breast lesions, especially fibroadenoma, but if the clinical and radiological correlations are taken critically into consideration, and the pathologists became well minded to this pitfall, further investigation by biopsy for better evaluation of the lesion will be done and misdiagnosis will be avoided. Thus, the diagnostic indices for FNAC can be improved from 96.6% for sensitivity to 100% when incorporated into the triple test assessment. (Source: Egyptian Journal of Pathology)

IDH1 R132H protein expression and loss of Tbx2 and pSTAT3 proteins predict better outcome of patients with high-grade astrocytoma
Background Astrocytoma is the most common primary tumor of the brain. High-grade astrocytomas are aggressive tumors with poor prognosis. Biomarkers that predict patient outcome and response to a specific treatment will provide patients with personalized estimation of prognosis and customized therapeutic regimens with maximal effectiveness and minimal toxicity. Aim The aim of this work was to explore the ability of the expression of IDH1 R132H, pSTAT3, and Tbx2 proteins to predict outcome of patients with high-grade astrocytoma. Materials and methods The expression of IDH1 R132H, pSTAT3, and Tbx2 proteins was assess...

Prognostic role of L1CAM, androgen receptor, and epithelial growth factor receptor expressions in triple-negative breast cancer
Conclusion Data obtained from this study advocate that L1CAM, AR, and EGFR could be used as useful prognostic markers and potential therapeutic targets for patients with TNBC. (Source: Egyptian Journal of Pathology)

Prognostic value of cancer stem cell markers and E-cadherin expression in non-small-cell lung cancer
Conclusion CD44 and CD133 are associated with favorable clinicopathological prognostic factors, whereas E-cadherin expression correlates with high-grade tumor, LVI, lymph node metastasis, and low CD44 expression. (Source: Egyptian Journal of Pathology)

Significance of Beclin-1, hypoxia-inducible factor-1α, and nuclear factor-κB/p65 expression in colorectal carcinoma: an immuohistochemical study
Conclusion The results suggested that Beclin-1 expression may be involved in colorectal carcinogenesis and progression, being linked with tumor hypoxia and NF-κB/p65-mediated signaling. (Source: Egyptian Journal of Pathology)

Folate receptor-α expression in triple-negative and non-triple-negative invasive breast carcinoma
Conclusion FRA expression is strongly associated with TNBC cases, and such association suggests its potential role in tumorigenesis. As such, novel premises for treatment of TNBC are anticipated by targeting its molecule. (Source: Egyptian Journal of Pathology)

Value of FOXP3 expression in prediction of neoadjuvant chemotherapy effect in triple-negative breast cancer
Background Response of breast carcinoma to neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC) varies regarding many factors including hormonal receptor status. Breast cancer is a heterogenous disease with different outcomes, hence a need arises for new markers predicting the outcome of NAC especially for the triple-negative group when estrogen and progesterone receptors and HER-2/neu are negative. Forkhead box P3 (FOXP3) is a promising target with unclear role. Aim The aim was to examine the value of FOXP3 expression in locally advanced triple-negative breast cancer tumoral cells as well as tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes (TILs) and to el...

Expression of CD34 and D2-40 in different grades of mucoepidermoid carcinoma
Conclusion Microvessel density and lymph vessel density obtained immunohistochemically were associated with tumor grade or stage. Thus, a direct correlation between the histological grade or tumor stage of MEC and angiogenesis or lymphangiogenesis has been suggested. (Source: Egyptian Journal of Pathology)

Epidermal growth factor receptor expression in colorectal adenocarcinoma and their corresponding metastatic sites: immunohistochemical and clinicopathological study
Background Epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) has been detected in a large number of cancers, and its expression has been considered as a factor of poor prognosis and more aggressive clinical outcome. Purpose The aim of this study was to assess EGFR expression in primary colorectal carcinoma (CRC), to correlate expression with different clinicopathological parameters, and to correlate EGFR expression in primary tumors with that in corresponding lymph nodes and distant metastases. Patients and methods This retrospective study included 200 cases of surgically excised CRC between May 2011 and October 2015. Differ...

Glypican-3, heat shock protein-70, and clathrin heavy chain in hepatitis C virus-related hepatocellular carcinoma
Conclusion Our work provides the first indication about the expression pattern of GPC-3, HSP-70, and clathrin heavy chain in histologically unremarkable liver, chronic HCV-related cirrhosis, and HCCs among Egyptian patients. The upregulation of these proteins suggests their role in hepatocarcinogenesis. The diagnostic and therapeutic ramifications of our results await future investigations. Automated digital image analysis and manual counting of Ki-67 proliferation index in patients with breast cancer: a comparative study
Background Immunohistochemical Ki-67 labeling index (LI) assessment is critical for treatment decision making, for defining prognostic subgroups, for and predicting treatment outcomes in patients with breast cancer (BC). Manual counting of 1000 tumor cells is routinely done to evaluate Ki-67 LI; however, this method is tedious, labor intensive, and significantly influenced by interobserver and intraobserver reproducibility. Aim To measure Ki-67 proliferation index objectively in a group of patients with BC using automated digital image analysis (DIA) method and to evaluate its consistency with manual counting method. ...

The utility of ThinPrep cytology and immunohistochemical staining of p16INK4a, Ki-67, and p63 in the assessment of cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (dysplasia)
Background Cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN) is a precancerous lesion with the capability of progressing to squamous-cell carcinoma (SCC). Despite the clearly defined criteria, histopathological diagnoses in hematoxylin and eosin-stained sections are subject to high rates of interpathologist discordance. The aim of this study was to compare and evaluate the results of both ThinPrep cytology and the immunohistochemical-staining pattern of p16, Ki-67, and p63, in diagnosing and grading cervical dysplasia. After such a comparison, the researchers hoped that the diagnostic accuracy in equivocal cases would improve. P...
