Elevated RANTES Level Is Associated With Metabolic Syndrome and Correlated With Activated Platelets Associated Markers in Healthy Younger Men
The objective of this study was to clarify the relationship of regulated on activation normal T cell expressed and secreted (RANTES) levels with metabolic syndrome (MS) and activated platelets-associated markers. We conducted a cross-sectional study of 210 healthy Japanese male volunteers (mean age 41 years old) who did not take any medications and were free of cardiovascular or cerebrovascular disease. The RANTES is correlated with age, diastolic blood pressure, and fast glucose by multivariate analysis using the cardiovascular risk factors (R 2 = .396, P < .001). The plasma RANTES level is significantl...

Specificity of Quantitative Latex Agglutination Assay for D-dimer in Exclusion of Pulmonary Embolism in the Emergency Department
We assessed the prevalence of elevated quantitative latex agglutination assay for D-dimer in patients in the emergency department in whom pulmonary embolism (PE) was excluded. D-dimer was normal (<230 ng/mL) in 435 (83%) of the 522 patients. D-dimer was normal in 88% of the patients with musculoskeletal or related chest pain, 74% with pleurisy or pleuritic chest pain, and 85% with upper respiratory tract infection. D-dimer was 230 to 500 ng/mL in 65 (75%) of the 87 in whom D-dimer was elevated. Clinical probability was low in 31 (48%) of the 65 patients with D-dimer levels of 230 to 500 ng/mL. D-dimer was 230 to 500 ng/...

The Relationship of Acute Myocardial Infarction With or Without ST-Segment Elevation and Viscosity
We compared hemorheological parameters in 42 male patients with acute myocardial infarction (AMI), with (n = 22) or without (n = 20) ST-segment elevation and in 20 controls. Plasma and blood viscosity (cP), plasma protein (g/dL) and fibrinogen (mg/dL) concentrations, red (106/µL) and white (103/µL) blood cell counts, hemoglobin concentration (g/dL), and hematocrit (%) were compared. Plasma viscosity was significantly higher in patients with AMI with (P = .012) and without (P = .046) ST-segment elevation than in controls. Patients with AMI with and without ST-segment elevation had significantly lower albumin (P ...

Systematic Analysis of Bleeding Phenotype in PT-VWD Compared to Type 2B VWD Using an Electronic Bleeding Questionnaire
Conclusion: Objective analysis of bleeding symptoms further the understanding of the phenotype of 2 closely similar bleeding disorders for better diagnosis and follow-up. Hypertension as a Risk Factor for Aspirin and Clopidogrel Resistance in Patients With Stable Coronary Artery Disease
Conclusion: We demonstrated higher incidence of antiplatelet resistance in patients with HT. Upon this finding, which is emerged from an actual group of patients with HT, cardioprotective effect of antiplatelet therapy in patients with HT should be argued. First Molecular Analysis of F8 Gene in Algeria: Identification of two Novel Mutations
The aim of this study was to detect the genetic alterations in the Factor 8 gene in 26 patients from Western Algeria. We detected the presence of "intron 22 inversion" with long-range polymerase chain reaction (PCR). Negative patients for this inversion were analyzed for "intron 1 inversion" using multiplex PCR. Patients who were negative for both inversions were analyzed using a direct sequencing. Deleterious effects of novel mutations on protein were assayed with bioinformatics tools. Causing mutations were identified in 85.71% of the families, including 11 "intron 22 inversion," 1 "intron 1 inversion," and 6 different p...
