Aspirin Resistance in Patients Undergoing Hemodialysis and Effect of Hemodialysis on Aspirin Resistance
The aim of this study was to evaluate the prevalence of aspirin resistance (AR) in patients undergoing hemodialysis (HD) and to assess the effect of HD on the results of the Multiplate test. A total of 54 patients undergoing HD were included in this study. Blood samples were taken just before and after the HD session. To determine AR, we used Multiplate test. Platelet aggregation values of the study population were 363.01 ± 225.69 aggregation unit (AU) x minutes before and 375.33 ± 254.05 AU x minutes after the HD (P = .597). There was strong correlation between the values before and after HD (R = .755, P <...

Comprehensive Evaluation of Hemostasis in Normal Women: Impact on the Diagnosis of Mild Bleeding Disorders
We report normal ranges for TEG and platelet aggregation in women during the first half of the menstrual cycle and show 23.4% of apparently normal women may have general or heavy menstrual bleeding. This is a prelude to a larger study to determine the validity of bleeding assessment tools in screening for MBDs in women. (Source: Clinical and Applied Thrombosis/Hemostasis)

Presence of Antiheparin/Platelet Factor 4 Immunoglobulin G Is Associated With Poor Prognosis in Patients With Suspected Disseminated Intravascular Coagulation
The underlying inflammatory or infectious condition in disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC) may stimulate the formation of antiheparin/platelet factor 4 (PF4) antibody, and the resulting antibody may affect the clinical course of DIC. We investigated the prognosis of antiheparin/PF4 antibodies in patients with suspected DIC. We measured heparin/PF4 immunoglobulin G (IgG) and total antibody levels using an automated chemiluminescence system in 118 patients with DIC. Of the 118 patients, 13 (11.0%) patients were positive for total antiheparin/PF4, and 6 (5.1%) patients were positive for antiheparin/PF4 IgG. These 13 ...

Effect of Freezing Plasma at -20{degrees}C for 2 Weeks on Prothrombin Time, Activated Partial Thromboplastin Time, Dilute Russell Viper Venom Time, Activated Protein C Resistance, and D-Dimer Levels
To assess the impact of preanalytical variables of time and temperature on prothrombin time (PT), activated partial thromboplastin time (aPTT), dilute Russell viper venom time (DRVVT), activated protein C resistance (APCR), and d-dimer, samples from 23 healthy individuals and 18 patients having coagulopathy with known abnormal PT and aPTT were collected. Plasma from each individual was separately pooled and aliquoted; the first 2 aliquots were stored at room temperature then analyzed at 2 hours (baseline) and 4 hours postcollection. The remaining aliquots were stored at –20°C and thawed for analysis at 48 hours, ...

Acquired Hemophilia A: Retrospective Analysis of 49 Cases From a Single Chinese Hemophilia Center
This study demonstrates that when bypassing agents such as recombinant activated factor VII and activated PCCs are not affordable or available, low dose PCC is effective and safe to control acute bleeding in patients with AHA. First-line therapy achieved good outcomes with a CR rate of 89.7%. (Source: Clinical and Applied Thrombosis/Hemostasis)

Relationship Between Neutrophil-to-Lymphocyte Ratio and Saphenous Vein Graft Disease in Patients With Coronary Bypass
Conclusion: To our knowledge, we showed for the first time that NLR is independently associated with SVGD. It can be easily used in this era, because it is easily available, widely used, and relatively cheap. Besides NLR, WBC count, SVG age, and RDW can also be used to predict SVGD. Evaluation of Algorithms for the Treatment of Problem Bleeding Episodes in Patients With Hemophilia Having Inhibitors
The correlation between real-world clinical decisions and adherence to published treatment algorithms for problem bleeding episodes in patients with severe hemophilia and inhibitors and the resultant impact on clinical outcomes were assessed. Nine cases documenting treatment for problem bleeding episodes in patients with severe hemophilia and inhibitors were retrospectively reviewed. Adherence to treatment algorithms was rated on a scale of 1 to 5, 1 being no adherence and 5 being very high adherence. Adherence ratings >3 were assigned to 7 cases in which high adherence was associated with ≤4 days to achieve hemostat...

Neutrophil to Lymphocyte Ratio is Predictor of Atrial Fibrillation Recurrence After Cardioversion With Amiodarone
Conclusion: Increased NLR is a marker of increased inflammation and may serve as simple, cheap, and readily available predictors of recurrence in the long-term follow-up of patients admitted with acute AF and successfully converted to SR with amiodarone. Prothrombotic States in Migraine
The increased risk of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular events in patients with migraine remains unexplained. Prothrombotic states are thought to contribute to this increased risk. The present study aimed to compare the prevalence of prothrombotic states in patients with migraine and headache-free controls. We conducted a case–control study to screen for prothrombotic states protein C, protein S (PS), antithrombin III, factor V Leiden, lupus anticoagulant, anticardiolipin, and anti-β2-glycoprotein 1 antibodies in 101 consecutive patients with migraine and 148 controls. An underlying prothrombotic state was enco...

Effect of Aqueous Extract and Fractions of Fagonia arabica on In Vitro Anticoagulant Activity
In this study, the anticoagulant effects of FA and its derived fractions were evaluated. Plasma recalcification was performed with multisolvent extracts of FA and then with extracts prepared successively with increasing polarity of the solvents. Aqueous extract was the most potent anticoagulant extract, which was fractionated by thin-layer chromatography and column chromatography. Five fractions collected were checked for their anticoagulation effect. The most potent fraction was screened for phytoconstituents. Aqueous extract of FA is the most active anticoagulant (31 minutes). Results were statistically significant when ...

Carbonic Anhydrase IX in the Prediction of Right Ventricular Dysfunction in Patients With Hemodynamically Stable Acute Pulmonary Embolism
This study investigated carbonic anhydrase IX (CA IX) levels for predicting echocardiographic RVD in patients with PE. A total of 150 normotensive patients with PE were included. The levels of CA IX, N-terminal pro-brain-type natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP), and high-sensitive cardiac troponin T were significantly elevated in patients with PE with RVD on echocardiography. A receiver–operating characteristic curve analysis showed a value of 0.751 for CA IX, 0.714 for NT-proBNP, and 0.650 for high-sensitive troponin-T to predict RVD on echocardiography. The cutoff value to predict RVD was 32.45 pg/mL for CA IX (sensiti...
