Association of Platelet to Lymphocyte Ratio With Inflammation and Severity of Coronary Atherosclerosis in Patients With Stable Coronary Artery Disease
In conclusion, PLR was independently and positively associated with the severity of coronary atherosclerosis. These results suggest that PLR is an easily available and cheap inflammatory indicator that can be used in predicting the severity of CAD. (Source: Angiology)

Transradial Coronary Intervention Versus Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting for Unprotected Left Main and/or Multivessel Disease in Patients With Acute Coronary Syndrome
The overall safety and efficacy of transradial coronary intervention (TRI) versus coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) for patients with unprotected left main (UPLM) disease and/or multivessel coronary disease (MVD) presenting with acute coronary syndrome (ACS) have not been established. Consecutive patients with ACS undergoing TRI with drug-eluting stent (n = 1431) or CABG (n = 651) for UPLM and/or MVD were included. A propensity-score matching was performed to adjust for differences in baseline characteristics between the 2 cohorts, yielding 524 pairs of matched patients. Median clinical follow-up was 32 months. After ...

Neutrophil to Lymphocyte Ratio and the Extent of Coronary Artery Disease: Results From a Large Cohort Study
The neutrophil to lymphocyte ratio (NLR), an inflammatory biomarker, may be of predictive and prognostic value for cardiovascular (CV) events. We evaluated the relationship of NLR with the prevalence and extent of coronary artery disease (CAD) in consecutive patients undergoing elective or urgent coronary angiography. Our population (n = 3738 patients) was divided into NLR quartiles. Higher NLR was associated with aging and established CV risk factors, previous percutaneous coronary revascularization, acute presentation, and more complex pharmacological therapy. The NLR was related to platelet count, white blood cell count...

Gender Analysis in the Outcomes of a Lifestyle Intervention Among Patients Who Had an Open Heart Surgery
Conclusion: Lifestyle nursing intervention immediately after open heart surgery had a beneficial effect on men 1 year after the surgery but not on women. Thus, there is a need for gender-specific studies among women. (Source: Angiology)

Relationship of Systolic Blood Pressure and Body Mass Index With Left Ventricular Mass and Mass Index in Adolescents
Prevalence of hypertension (HT) is growing among children and adolescents. Its diagnosis is commonly ignored as it does not produce any end-organ damage in adolescents. We evaluated whether the blood pressure (BP) and confounding factors were related to myocardial mass increase; an earlier representative of HT; among adolescents. We have demonstrated that heart rate, body mass index (BMI), left ventricular mass (LVM), interventricular septum, and LV mass indexed to body surface area (BSA) and height significantly increased as the category of BP increased. We have also showed that the systolic BP (SBP), diastolic BP (DBP), ...

Small-Fiber Neuropathy: A Diabetic Microvascular Complication of Special Clinical, Diagnostic, and Prognostic Importance
Damage of small nerve fibers may lead to a large variety of clinical symptoms. Small-fiber neuropathy underlies the symptoms of painful diabetic neuropathy, which may decrease quality of life. It also contributes to the poor prognosis of diabetic neuropathy because it plays a key role in the pathogenesis of foot ulceration and autonomic neuropathy. Impairment of small nerve fibers is considered the earliest alteration in the course of diabetic neuropathy. Therefore, assessment of functional and morphological abnormalities of small nerve fibers may enable timely diagnosis. The definition, symptoms, and clinical significance...

Epicardial Fat in Nonalcoholic Fatty Liver Disease: Properties and Relationships With Metabolic Factors, Cardiac Structure, and Cardiac Function
In conclusion, this study confirms a pathologic phenotype of NAFLD. Epicardial fat was not significantly related to NAFLD per se, but diabetes, glucose metabolism, and inflammation were closely related to its thickness. (Source: Angiology)

Electrocardiographic Left Ventricular Hypertrophy as a Predictor for Nonsignificant Coronary Artery Disease in Patients With Non-ST-Segment Elevation Myocardial Infarction
In conclusion, electrocardiographic LVH is an independent predictor of nonsignificant CAD and associated with a lower rate of in-hospital revascularization in patients with NSTEMI. (Source: Angiology)

Increased Platelet to Lymphocyte Ratio is Related to Slow Coronary Flow
In conclusion, higher PLR levels were significantly and independently related to the presence of SCF. Besides, PLR was positively correlated with serum CRP level as a conventional marker for systemic inflammation. (Source: Angiology)

Percutaneous Coronary Intervention Rates and Associated Independent Predictors for Progression of Nontarget Lesions in Patients With Diabetes Mellitus After Drug-Eluting Stent Implantation
Little is known about clinically driven percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) rates and predictors for progression of nontarget lesions in diabetic patients who have undergone drug-eluting stent (DES) implantation. We retrospectively analyzed the clinical and angiographic data of 2187 diabetic patients undergoing DES implantation. The cumulative rate of nontarget lesion PCI was 6.3% at 1 year, 14.3% at 2 years, and 19.8% at 3 years. The independent predictors of need for clinically driven PCI in patients with diabetes mellitus after DES implantation included obesity (odds ratio [OR] 2.303, 95% confidence interval [CI] 1...
