PHACES syndrome with intestinal haemangiomatosis
We present a rare case of a neonate with PHACES syndrome (posterior fossa malformations, large facialhemangiomas, cerebralarterial anomalies, cardiovascular anomalies, eye anomalies andsternal clefting orsupraumbilical raphe) and diffuse hemangiomatosis of the ileum, presenting with multiple intestinal perforations and peritonitis. The infant was successfully treated with propranolol and methylprednisolone as well as octreotide, tranexamic acid, and supportive therapy for massive intestinal bleeding.  (Source: Acta Dermatovenerologica Croatica)

Gingival papillomatosis as the oral sign of Cowden's syndrome. A case report.
AbstractCowden ' s syndrome (CS) is a rare autosomal dominant, hereditary multiorgan disease with higher risk for malignancies (breast, thyroid, endometrium). Mucocutaneous lesions occur in 90% of cases and are characterized by facial trichilemmomas,  oral mucosal papillomas and benign acral keratoses. A case of 39-year-old female patient with a chief complaint of " white spots " on the upper and lower attached gingiva accompanyed with skin changes on the face, hands and soles is presented. Her family medical history revealed that her mother had endometrial polyp and sister thyroid cancer. In her medical personal history...

Clinical efficacy of combination therapy with podophyllotoxin and liquid nitrogen cryotherapy in the treatment of genital warts in men
High prevalence, peculiar etiopathogenesis, and ineffective therapies have contributed to the fact that genital warts are one of the most challenging issues in modern medicine. This prospective study was aimed at determining the clinical efficacy of combination therapy with 0.5% podophyllotoxin solution and liquid nitrogen cryotherapy in the local treatment of genital warts in men. One hundred and ten consecutive male patients with genital warts were randomly assigned to two groups. The control group consisted of two subgroups: 30 patients treated with podophyllotoxin and 30 patients treated with cryotherapy. The experimen...

Human skin microbiota in various phases of atopic dermatitis
We present the results of our study on the microbiota of apparently healthy skin in children with atopic eczema (AE) exacerbation and skin microbiota in remission. The study revealed that the skin microbiota in children with AE signi ficantly differs from that of healthy controls. The differences include not the quantitative but also qualitative skin microbiota composition both on AE lesions and apparently healthy skin, where the bacterial number exceeds that on the skin of the control group children by 2-4 times. We also observ ed qualitative bacterial imbalance and appearance and prevalence of microorganisms not typical ...

Effectiveness and pharmacokinetic evaluation of GEoNIstin ® (oxytetracyline and nystatin) vaginal tablEts for unspecific and mixed vulvovaginal infections (GENIE study)
The GENIE study was performed to evaluate the effectiveness and systemic exposure to oxytetracycline in local treatment of unspecific and mixed vulvovaginal infections characterized by vaginal discharge with Geonistin® vaginal tablets (100 mg oxytetracycline and 100 000 IU nystatin). The total number of subjects enrolled was 189. The treatment had beneficial effects in 100% of the study population. According to the Nugent score, the treatment had a positive effect in 89.2% of participants. The microbiological cure rate was 78.8%. Oxytetracycline concentration levels were from 13.3 to 32.2 ng/mL in 11 out of 15 subjects, a...

Dermatomycosis in cutaneous tumors is a predictor for non-malignancy: a cross-sectional study
The aim of this study was to evaluate the presence of spores and/or hyphae in benign cutaneous tumors (CT) and compare their presence in malignant cutaneous tumors. In this cross-sectional study we evaluated 328 CTs positive for spores and/or hyphae. The results show that the greatest number of involved CTs which contained spores and/or hyphae were found in compound nevi 181 (55.18%) and seborrheic warts 61 (18.60%). No spores and/or hyphae were observed in the melanoma samples, and a very low prevalence was found in squamous cell carcinomas (SCCs) (2; 0.61%) and basal cell carcinoma (BCC) (1; 0.30%). The presence of spore...

Clinicopathological characteristics of BRAF V600E mutated melanomas in the Dalmatian region of Croatia
A high proportion of cutaneous melanomas harbor activating mutations of the BRAF or NRAS genes, which are components of mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) signal transduction pathway. The importance of BRAF V600E mutation in melanoma is not only related to the possibility of the administration of the targeted therapy, but also to the fact that BRAF V600E mutated melanomas have distinct clinicopathological features. We investigated the clinicopathological features of 80 primary skin melanomas with known BRAF V600E mutation status excised in the Dalmatian region of Croatia, with comparison of these features between the ...

Intralesional vitamin D3 in recalcitrant palmoplantar and periungual warts: A prospective, observational study
Cutaneous warts are particularly difficult to treat with conventional treatment on sites such as the palms, soles, and periungual region. Immunotherapy boosts the host immune response and helps clear warts with less chance of recurrence. Vitamin D plays an important role in proliferation and differentiation of keratinocytes. The aim of this observational study was to study the efficacy and safety of intralesional vitamin D immunotherapy in the treatment of recalcitrant palmoplantar and periungual warts. Patients who had palmoplantar and periungual warts for more than 6 months and were non-responsive to at least two convent...
