Erlotinib-induced Rosacea-like Dermatitis
Skin and skin adnexa toxicities are the most common side effects associated with epidermal growth factor receptor tyrosine kinase inhibitors (EGFR-TKIs) and occur in most patients receiving this therapy. The majority of these cutaneous side effects are transient, reversible, and dose dependent. Although these symptoms are in general not severe, they significantly affect quality of life and can have a serious effect on treatment compliance as well as the treatment regimen. The most common early symptoms present as papulopustules on an erythematous base, usually localized in seborrheic areas. This clinical presentation is co...

Drug-induced Photosensitivity
Ultraviolet radiation is considered the main environmental physical hazard to the skin. It is responsible for photoaging, sunburns, carcinogenesis, and photodermatoses, including drug-induced photosensitivity. Drug-induced photosensitivity is an abnormal skin reaction either to sunlight or to artificial light. Drugs may be a cause of photoallergic, phototoxic, and photoaggravated dermatitis. There are numerous medications that can be implicated in these types of reactions. Recently, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs have been shown to be a common cause of photosensitivity. As both systemic and topical medications may p...

Drug-Induced Rosacea-like Dermatitis
Rosacea is a common, chronic cutaneous disorder with a prevalence of 0.5-10%, predominantly affecting women. The disease presents with a heterogeneous clinical picture characterized by transient flushing, persistent facial redness, telangiectasias, and, in more severe clinical forms, the presence of inflammatory papules and pustules in the central third of the face. Although its pathophysiology is complex and still remains unknown, factors that exacerbate the disease are well defined. They include genetic predisposition as well as external factors such as exposure to UV light, high temperature, and diet. Besides these well...

Psychosocial Impairment as a Possible Cause of Sexual Dysfunction among Young Men with Mild Androgenetic Alopecia: A Cross-sectional Crowdsourcing Web-based Study
We present the first study exploring the influence of MAGA psychosocial impairment on sexual function. Men between 18 and 40 years of age with moderate to severe MAGA psychosocial morbidity were found to have an increased risk of sexual dysfunction. Assessment of psychological morbidity and sexual function could be critical in patients with MAGA, particularly when considering treatment with finasteride.   (Source: Acta Dermatovenerologica Croatica)

Contact Hypersensitivity to European Baseline Series and Corticosteroid Series Haptens in a Population of Adult Patients with Contact Eczema
Contact eczema/dermatitis (CE) is one of the most frequent skin diseases. The disease is regarded as a reaction pattern. Usually many different stimuli can make the skin react in the same way, some of them may be in action at the same time. A golden standard in the allergic contact dermatitis (ACD) diagnosis are patch tests. Clinical observations show that the frequency of contact allergy to topical corticosteroids constantly increases. The aim of this study was to evaluate the prevalence of contact allergy to European Standard Series and Corticosteroid Series haptens in the population of patients with CE. (Source: Acta De...

Differences in Disease-specific Quality of Life in Patients with Actinic Keratosis in Australia and Denmark
Actinic keratosis (AK) negatively influence patients’quality of life as measured by the disease-specific AKQOL questionnaire. The quality of life in Australian patients are significantly less affected than in Danish patients. It is hypothesised that general factors, such as public awareness and cultural connotations, may  influence the impact of AK on QoL. (Source: Acta Dermatovenerologica Croatica)

Prevalence of Impaired Hearing and Vision in Patients with Vitiligo
Vitiligo is a common dermatosis occurring witha frequency of about 0.2-4.0% in world population. Themain skin symptom of disease are white patches appearingas a result of destruction or dysfunction of pigment cells(melanocytes). Melanocytes are localized not only in epidermisand bulge region of hair follicle, but also in inner earand eyeball structures, and therefore vitiligo may coexistswith auditory and visual disorders. The most frequent auditoryand visual disturbances occurring in vitiligo patientsare discussed in this article. (Source: Acta Dermatovenerologica Croatica)

Serum Visfatin, Adiponectin, and Tumor Necrosis Factor Alpha (TNF-α) Levels in Patients with Psoriasis and their Correlation with Disease Severity
In this study we assessed the adipose tissue cytokines visfatin, adiponectin, and tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) levels in psoriasis patients and evaluated the relationship between disease severity and cytokines. The study included 42 patients with psoriasis and 42 healthy individuals. Visfatin, adiponectin, and TNF-α levels were measured in both the psoriasis and the control group. The disease severity index was assessed in psoriatic patients by means of PASI. The relationship between visfatin, adiponectin, TNF-α, PASI score, and obesity was evaluated. When serum TNF-α, adiponectin, and visfatin levels of the patien...

Flavopiridol Induces Apoptosis via Mitochondrial Pathway in B16F10 Murine Melanoma Cells and a Subcutaneous Melanoma Tumor Model
Flavopiridol is a cyclin-dependent kinase (CDK) inhibitor that promotes cell cycle arrest. We aimed to examine the anti-proliferative effects of the flavopiridol and oxaliplatin combination on p16INK4A deficient melanoma cells B16F10 and also its apoptotic effects on a subcutaneously injected B16F10 allograft melanoma tumor model. Flavopiridol and oxaliplatin treated B16F10 cell viability was determined by MTT assay. C57BL6 mice were injected with B16F10 cells and treated with flavopiridol after tumor implantation. BRAF and BCL2L1 mRNA expression levels were measured using reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (R...
