High body mass index is a risk factor for acne severity in adolescents: A preliminary report
Acne vulgaris is one of the most common chronic dermatological diseases among adolescents. Recent data indicated that a specific diet may affect the course and appearance of acne. The aim of the study was to analyze the relationship between body mass index (BMI) and acne prevalence and severity. This cross-sectional study was conducted among 143 consecutively recruited adolescents aged between 12 and 18. All participants were physically examined, including measurement of weight and height and type and severity of acne. Acne lesions were evaluated as not present (0), mild (1), moderate (2), and severe (3). The predominant t...

Proliferative actinic keratosis: An invasive squamous cell carcinoma or not?
In conclusion, 25% (13/51) of lesions diagnosed as PAK were invasive SCC, which is of clinical and histopathological significance. Our results suggest that the definition of PAK should be histopathologically revised and that total excisional biopsy instead of punch biopsy should be considered, especially for lesions with a proliferative appearance.  (Source: Acta Dermatovenerologica Croatica)

Health behaviour changes in cutaneous melanoma survivors
Aim of this study was to   investigate changes in health behavior of melanoma survivors with emphasis on safe sun behavior (SSB) and skin self-examination (SSE). We also identified factors with significant impact on SSE improvement. We performed a cross-sectional (epidemiological) survey based on a structured questionnair e. 150 patients from three medical institutions were invited and 144 patients responded. Statistical analysis was performed with SPSS version 23.0, with the level of significance set to 0.05. After being diagnosed with cutaneous melanoma, patients significantly improved preventive health behavior: 6 8.1...

Penicillin-induced cutaneous necrotizing eosinophilic vasculitis with cryofibrinogenemia
We present a case of an 18-year-old girl who developed palpable purpura and hemorrhagic bullae over the lower extremities associated with itching, 7 days after the commencement of penicillin therapy. Plasma cryofibrinogen was positive. Histopathology showed an infiltration of eosinophils within and around the vessel walls and a complete absence of nuclear dust and neutrophils. Oral prednisone at 1 mg/kg induced remission in 2 weeks; the prednisone dose was tapered and discontinued after 2.5 months. There was no evidence of recurrence after 37 months of follow-up. Our patient represents a rare case of drug/penicillin-induce...

Face and scalp basal cell carcinoma treatment: A review of the literature
Basal cell carcinoma (BCC) is the most frequent skin cancer and is characterized by slow growth, even if it can be locally invasive and rarely metastasizes. Many different phenotypic presentations and histopathologic subtypes have been described, and the current guidelines subdivide BCCs into low-risk (nodular and superficial) and high-risk subtypes (micronodular, infiltrating, and morphoeic BCC and those with squamous differentiation). Dermoscopy allows the identification of the features associated with these different subtypes. Compared with the low-risk forms of BCC, more aggressive ones tend to undergo more frequently ...

Reticular erythematous mucinosis: A rare cutaneous mucinosis
Reticular erythematous mucinosis (REM) is a rare form of primary cutaneous mucinosis, most often involving the midline of the upper chest or back in middle-aged women.REM bears clinical and histopathologic resemblance to lupus erythematosus tumidus (LET), dermatomyositis, scleredema, and lichen myxedematosus. Early recognition and diagnosis of REM is particularly relevant to exclude the abovementioned diseases, as REM is more benign and has fewer systemic consequences.
