Techniques and outcomes of minimally-invasive surgery for nonmetastatic renal cell carcinoma with inferior vena cava thrombosis: a systematic review of the literature.
CONCLUSIONS: Minimally-invasive surgery is technically feasible and has been shown to achieve acceptable perioperative outcomes in selected patients with renal cancer and IVC thrombosis. The evidence is premature to draw conclusions on intermediate-long term oncologic outcomes. Robotic surgery allowed to extend surgical indications to more challenging cases with more extensive tumor thrombosis. Nonetheless, global experience on minimally- invasive IVC thrombectomy is limited to high-volume surgeons at high-volume Centres. Future research is needed to prove its non-inferiority as compared to open surgery and to define its b...

Reliability of the different versions of Partin tables in predicting extraprostatic extension of prostate cancer: a systematic review and meta-analysis.
CONCLUSIONS: Despite being the most commonly used predictive tool for prediction of EPE, the pooled EPE AUC for different versions of Partin tables showed poor discriminative performance. Thus, surgeons must be cautious when referring to Partin tables for prediction of EPE. Further external validation studies are required to confirm these results. Bladder-sparing treatment in MIBC: where do we stand?
CONCLUSIONS: Bladder-sparing treatment is an option for patients with bladder cancer. Those who may benefit most are those with solitary invasive cancers, those with good bladder capacity and compliance, those who choose to preserve their bladder and sexual function and who are not fit for RC. Multimodal bladder- sparing approaches may have comparable oncological outcomes to RC and so appear an attractive alternative in suitable patients. Robot assisted laparoscopic prostatectomy in liver transplant recipient.
We present two cases of RALP in LTRs with localized prostate cancer (PCa). In both cases, a transperitoneal approach was used, and they were successfully completed without perioperative complications. Thus, RALP seems to be a feasible, safe and effective treatment for PCa in LTRs. Significant modifications to the surgical technique do not seem to be required, and patient optimization in preparation for surgery remains the key factor. History of liver transplant should not discourage embarking in a RALP in Centers with adequate robotic expertise. PMID: 30895766 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher] (Source: Minerva Ur...

Comparison between Near-infrared fluorescence imaging with indocyanine green and InfraRed imaging: on-bench trial for kidney perfusion analysis. A project by ESUT-YAUWP group.
CONCLUSIONS: Although NIRF technology with ICG is providing more image detail, we demonstrated that IRT is capable of detecting kidney parenchyma perfusion with warm fluids. Further studies will show its feasibility in graft re-perfusion assessment during kidney transplant or similar applications. Robot-assisted versus open partial nephrectomy: comparison of outcomes. A systematic review.
CONCLUSIONS: Current evidence demonstrate that RAPN is a reasonable alternative to OPN with regard to oncological and early functional outcomes with a straightforward advantage of improved perioperative morbidity, as expected by minimally invasive techniques. Nevertheless, there is still a great need for well-designed randomized studies with an extended follow-up. PMID: 30895768 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher] (Source: Minerva Urologica e Nefrologica)

Outcome of posterior urethral valve in 64 children. Single center experience of 22 years.
CONCLUSIONS: Our results confirm that PUV has a considerable risk for CKD development. Antenatal diagnosis, management of proteinuria and hypertension may modify this progression. But already injured kidneys still have a potential risk. The need for further research to evaluate the impact of any intervention on long term renal outcome is obvious. Actual evidences and future perspectives about the role of iXip ® in the diagnosis of prostate cancer: a narrative review.
Actual evidences and future perspectives about the role of iXip® in the diagnosis of prostate cancer: a narrative review. Minerva Urol Nefrol. 2019 Feb 14;: Authors: Antonelli A, Francavilla S, Gallotta A, Da Pozzo LF, Ferretti S, Sigala S, Simeone C, Mirone V, Artibani W, Porreca A Abstract The iXip (Immune CompleX Predictive Index, Xeptagen SpA) is a diagnostic tool which biological bases ground on PSA-IgM complexes. An algorithm merges the data of PSA-IgM and serum total PSA dosage, prostate volume and patient's age, providing as output a numerical value that correlates with t...

The efficacy and safety of bilateral same-session ureteroscopy with holmium laser lithotripsy in the treatment of bilateral ureteral stones.

Extended pelvic lymphadenectomy for prostate cancer: should the cloquet's nodes dissection be considered only an option?
CONCLUSIONS: To the best of our knowledge this is the first study that analyses specifically the quantitative prevalence of Cloquet's nodes and the incidence of malignancy involvement in patients undergoing RRP and ePLND for PCa. The occurrence of multiple lymph nodes in the Cloquet fossa is a rare event. Our series showed that Cloquet involvement seems to be associated with multiple nodes cohabitation and contemporarily multiple lymph node metastases in other template locations. Related morbidity rate is sporadic and can't justify the Cloquet preservation. Wider series are required to comprehend predictor factors of Cloqu...

[-2]proPSA for predicting biochemical recurrence of prostate cancer earlier than total PSA after radical prostatectomy: an observational prospective cohort study.
CONCLUSIONS: The current findings showed that p2PSA might be more sensitive than tPSA in detecting earlier BCR within 3-year follow-up. Further studies with a longer follow- up and larger population remain mandatory before considering p2PSA for clinical decision- making. Benefits and risks of testosterone therapy in older men.
Authors: Cardona Attard C, Fava S Abstract Adult-onset hypogonadism is used to define androgen deficiency and its associated symptoms commonly occurring in middle-aged and elderly men, who are unable to mount an adequate compensatory gonadotropin response but may also have an element of testicular failure. It often occurs in relation with chronic metabolic conditions such as diabetes and the metabolic syndrome. There is a growing demand from elderly men for testosterone therapy. The physician should therefore be well-informed so as the patient can make an informed decision. Indeed, testosterone therapy in ...

Precision prostate cancer surgery: an overview of new technologies and techniques.
Authors: Checcucci E, Amparore D, De Luca S, Autorino R, Fiori C, Porpiglia F Abstract Over the past few years several new technologies have become available for the management of PCa. The implementation of robotic surgery allowed an unprecedented refinement of surgical techniques, and the RARP procedure is constantly evolving. Nowadays research is mainly focused towards a "tailored" case-specific surgical approach that might allow to achieve PCa control while preserving urinary continence and erectile function. Therefore, in contemporary urology era, several new tools have been introduced to optimize surg...
