Characterization of a porcine model for associating liver partition and portal vein ligation for a staged hepatectomy
ConclusionThe present study describes the first reproducible large animal model of the ALPPS procedure. The degree of liver growth and the kinetic rate of growth were similar to that which has been demonstrated in human publications. This model will be valuable as future laboratory studies are performed. (Source: HPB: official journal of the International Hepato Pancreat Biliary Association)

Prospective diagnostic test accuracy comparison of computed tomography during arterial portography and Primovist magnetic resonance imaging in the pre‐operative assessment of colorectal cancer liver metastases
ConclusionspMRI is less invasive, has a good inter‐observer agreement, has comparable sensitivity and specificity to CTAP in the pre‐chemotherapy population and demonstrates better specificity in patients assessed post‐chemotherapy. pMRI is a valid alternative to CTAP in the assessment of CRCLM. Understanding drivers of hospital charge variation for episodes of care among patients undergoing hepatopancreatobiliary surgery
ConclusionsAfter accounting for in‐hospital complications, the total mean hospital charges for HPB surgery remained variable by case type and provider. While the variation in charges was associated with LOS, provider‐level differences in across‐the‐board charges were also noted. Pancreaticoduodenectomy in Florida: do 20‐year trends document the salutary benefits of centralization of care?
ConclusionsOver the last 20 years, the concentration of care has occurred in Florida with substantially fewer surgeons undertaking many more pancreaticoduodenectomies with dramatic improvements in LOS and in‐hospital mortality, albeit with increased hospital charges. National trends with a laparoscopic liver resection: results from a population‐based analysis
ConclusionSince the Louisville Statement in 2009, utilization of LLR has increased. LLR is associated with a modest decrease in LOS and appears to be safe with mortality and morbidity similar to open surgery. (Source: HPB: official journal of the International Hepato Pancreat Biliary Association)

Management of a delayed post‐pancreatoduodenectomy haemorrhage using endovascular techniques
ConclusionA delayed haemorrhage post‐pancreaticoduodenectomy can be managed by endovascular techniques with acceptable morbidity and mortality. Rebleeding and hepatic abscesses may occur and can be managed non‐operatively in most cases. The association of a delayed haemorrhage with a pancreatic fistula makes this a challenging clinical problem. (Source: HPB: official journal of the International Hepato Pancreat Biliary Association)

Surgical resection versus ablation for hepatocellular carcinoma ≤ 3 cm: a population‐based analysis
ConclusionResection of HCC ≤ 3 cm results in better long‐term survival as compared with ablation. Treatment strategies for small solitary HCC should emphasize a resection first approach, with ablation being reserved for patients precluded from surgery. Assessment of the reporting of quality and outcome measures in hepatic resections: a call for 90‐day reporting in all hepatectomy series
ConclusionQuality outcomes after a hepatic resection are inconsistently reported in the literature. Quality outcome studies for a hepatectomy should report mortality and morbidity at a minimum of 90 days after surgery. Pancreatectomy with vein reconstruction: technique matters
ConclusionsPrimary end‐to‐end and TV have superior patency than the alternatives after PV/SMV resection and should be the preferred techniques for short (<3 cm) reconstructions. (Source: HPB: official journal of the International Hepato Pancreat Biliary Association)

Increased morbidity and mortality of a concomitant colectomy during a pancreaticoduodenectomy: an NSQIP propensity‐score matched analysis

Subtotal hepatectomy in swine for studying small‐for‐size syndrome and portal inflow modulation: is it reliable?
ConclusionsSubtotal hepatectomy of 90% in swine is a reliable model for SFSS inducing a significant increase in HVPG. However, in view of the relevant differences between swine and human splanchnic anatomy, this model is inadequate for studying the effects of PIM by SAL and splenectomy. The accuracy of pre‐operative imaging in the management of hepatic cysts
ConclusionRadiological assessment of hepatic cysts is relatively inaccurate as SLC frequently present with concerning features. In the absence of a strong suspicion of malignancy, fenestration and FS should be considered prior to a complete resection. The impact of recent hospitalization on surgical site infection after a pancreatectomy
ConclusionsRecent pre‐surgical admission is an important risk factor for SSI after a pancreatectomy. Many patients with RPSA are not admitted pre‐operatively to the same hospital where the pancreatectomy occurs; in such circumstances, SSI rates may not be a sole reflection of the care provided by operating hospitals. What to expect when you're expecting a hepatopancreatobiliary surgeon: self‐reported experiences of HPB surgeons from different training pathways
ConclusionsFellowship training in HPB surgery varies by training pathway. Training in MIS and ultrasound is deficient in each pathway. The ultimate scope of non‐transplant HPB practice appears similar across training pathways. Thus, training pathway choice is best guided by the training experience desired and non‐HPB components of anticipated practice.
