Safety and feasibility of an enhanced recovery pathway after a liver resection: prospective cohort study
ConclusionEnhanced recovery after a liver resection appears to be safe, feasible and may reduce severe complications. However, the LOS was significantly influenced by patient age, open surgery and post‐operative complications, but not by an ERP. A nationwide assessment of outcomes after bile duct reconstruction
ConclusionThis is the first national description of BDRs using a large database. In this diverse sampling, both procedure indication and patient characteristics influence morbidity and mortality. (Source: HPB: official journal of the International Hepato Pancreat Biliary Association)

Reductions in post‐hepatectomy liver failure and related mortality after implementation of the LiMAx algorithm in preoperative work‐up: a single‐centre analysis of 1170 hepatectomies of one or more segments
ConclusionsPostoperative liver failure and postoperative liver failure‐related mortality decreased in patients undergoing hepatectomy following the implementation of the LiMAx algorithm. (Source: HPB: official journal of the International Hepato Pancreat Biliary Association)

Impact of centralization of pancreatoduodenectomy on reported radical resections rates in a nationwide pathology database
ConclusionsCentralization of PD was associated with both higher resection rates and more reported R0 resections. The impact of this finding on overall survival should be further assessed. (Source: HPB: official journal of the International Hepato Pancreat Biliary Association)

Hepato‐pancreatectomy: how morbid? Results from the national surgical quality improvement project
ConclusionsA synchronous hemihepatectomy (or trisectionectomy) with PD remains a highly morbid combination and should be reserved for patients who have undergone extremely cautious selection. (Source: HPB: official journal of the International Hepato Pancreat Biliary Association)

Prospective evaluation of 18F‐fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography in patients receiving hepatic arterial and systemic chemotherapy for unresectable colorectal liver metastases
ConclusionsPre‐ and post‐treatment PET‐related metabolic parameters do not predict conversion to resection or oncologic outcome in patients with uCRLM treated with HAI and systemic chemotherapy. Metabolic parameters should not be used to monitor response or to determine prognosis in these patients. (Source: HPB: official journal of the International Hepato Pancreat Biliary Association)

Hepatectomy for hepatocellular carcinoma larger than 10 cm: preoperative risk stratification to prevent futile surgery
ConclusionsAccording to the present data, among patients submitted to hepatectomy for huge HCC, those with a high bilirubin level, low platelet count and portal vein thrombosis are at higher risk for futile surgery. The presence of portal vein tumour thrombosis should be regarded as a relative contraindication to surgery. (Source: HPB: official journal of the International Hepato Pancreat Biliary Association)
