Prognostic significance of pre‐operative C‐reactive protein and the neutrophil–lymphocyte ratio in resectable pancreatic cancer: a systematic review
DiscussionInflammatory markers might prove useful guides to the management of resectable pancreatic cancer but, given the poor quality of evidence, further longitudinal studies are required before incorporating pre‐operative inflammatory markers into clinical decision making. Does EUS‐FNA molecular analysis carry additional value when compared to cytology in the diagnosis of pancreatic cystic neoplasm? A systematic review
Conclusionsk‐ras mutational analysis used as an individual screening test has a poor diagnostic accuracy, as does cytology when used alone. The benefit comes with utilization in a combined fashion. More studies are needed to evaluate the correct sequence and utility of these tests for cyst differentiation. (Source: HPB: official journal of the International Hepato Pancreat Biliary Association)

Risk factors and management for early and late intrahepatic recurrence of solitary hepatocellular carcinoma after curative resection
ConclusionEarly and late recurrences of solitary HCC after curative resection are associated with different predictive factors. The time to recurrence and further curative treatment after recurrence were the best predictors of survival post recurrence. Contemporary management and classification of hepatic leiomyosarcoma
ConclusionsHepatic resection for leiomyosarcoma is associated with encouraging rates of 5‐year overall and disease‐free survival. The worse outcome that had been expected based on data derived from historical cohorts (partly comprising subjects with GIST) was not observed. An algorithm for pathological classification and treatment is suggested. (Source: HPB: official journal of the International Hepato Pancreat Biliary Association)

Model to predict survival after surgical resection of intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma: the Mayo Clinic experience
ConclusionsThe AJCC 7th edition did not accurately predict survival in patients with ICC. A multivariable model including tumour size and differentiation in addition to the criteria used in the AJCC 7th edition may offer a more accurate method of predicting survival in patients with ICC. Changing indications for a total pancreatectomy: perspectives over a quarter of a century
ConclusionsThe indications for el‐TP have changed; it is being performed more frequently although the proportion relative to other pancreatic resections has not changed. A decrease in the rate of em‐TP is likely to reflect improved peri‐operative management of a pancreatic fistula and its complications after a pancreaticoduodenectomy. Outcomes of hepatectomy for hepatocellular carcinoma with bile duct tumour thrombus
DiscussionA major hepatectomy, extrahepatic biliary resection and hepaticojejunostomy should be the standard for HCC with BDTT, and long‐term survival is possible after radical surgery. (Source: HPB: official journal of the International Hepato Pancreat Biliary Association)

A cost effective analysis of a laparoscopic versus an open left lateral sectionectomy in a liver transplant unit
ConclusionLLLS is a significantly cost effective operation compared with an open approach with a reduction in hospital stay. In addition, it is suitable to use as a training operation. (Source: HPB: official journal of the International Hepato Pancreat Biliary Association)

Outcomes following resection of intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma
ConclusionsDespite curative resection of ICC, recurrence can be expected to occur in 79% of patients at 5 years. Predictors of survival and recurrence after resection vary in the literature. In patients with recurrence, selection of the optimal treatment remains challenging. (Source: HPB: official journal of the International Hepato Pancreat Biliary Association)

Percutaneous cholecystostomy is an effective treatment option for acute calculous cholecystitis: a 10‐year experience
ConclusionsThe present study, which is the largest ever conducted in this treatment area, supports the hypothesis that PC is an effective treatment modality for critically ill patients with ACC unfit for surgery and results in a low rate of 30‐day mortality. Renal function after low central venous pressure‐assisted liver resection: assessment of 2116 cases
ConclusionsThe majority of patients in the study cohort had low baseline eGFR. Biochemical alterations in eGFR are transient in the vast majority of patients after LCVP‐assisted hepatectomy and their clinical impact is limited. The present data suggest that clinically relevant renal dysfunction is a very uncommon event in patients undergoing LCVP‐assisted liver resection.
