The role of early contrast-enhanced chest computed tomography in the aetiological diagnosis of patients presenting with cardiac tamponade or large pericardial effusion
Conclusion In all patients with cardiac tamponade or large pericardial effusion, CT was useful either in identifying the underlying disease or in excluding other potential causes of pericardial effusion. We conclude that chest CT is a very useful non-invasive diagnostic tool to identify and stage pericardial diseases. (Source: European Journal of Echocardiography)

Usefulness of traditional echocardiographic parameters in assessment of left ventricular function in patients with normal ejection fraction early after acute myocardial infarction: results from a large consecutive cohort
Conclusion In two-third of patients with MI and normal LVEF, at least one of the other markers of systolic function was outside of the normal range. WMSI reflected the size of MI better than global LV function parameters as LVEF or MAPSE. (Source: European Journal of Echocardiography)

Comparison of the standard and speckle tracking echocardiographic features of wild-type and mutated transthyretin cardiac amyloidoses
Conclusion Patients with ATTRwt are characterized by lower LVEF, LV basal, and LV mid-radial strains compared with patients with ATTRm. LVEF and LV radial strain are useful in distinguishing between ATTRwt and ATTRm when TTR has been proved in biopsy specimens. (Source: European Journal of Echocardiography)

Large lipid-rich coronary plaques detected by near-infrared spectroscopy at non-stented sites in the target artery identify patients likely to experience future major adverse cardiovascular events
Conclusion Detection of large LRP by NIRS at non-stented sites in a target artery was associated with an increased risk of future MACCE. These findings support ongoing prospective studies to further evaluate the ability of NIRS to identify vulnerable patients. (Source: European Journal of Echocardiography)

Prognostic significance of 123I-mIBG SPECT myocardial imaging in heart failure: differences between patients with ischaemic and non-ischaemic heart failure
Conclusions Prognostic significance of patterns of 123I-mIBG and MPI uptake differ between IHF and NIHF subjects. SPECT imaging may provide new insights into underlying disease processes in HF, including the degree of dysinnervation in areas with preserved myocardial perfusion in non-ischaemic HF patients. EACVI/EHRA Expert Consensus Document on the role of multi-modality imaging for the evaluation of patients with atrial fibrillation
Atrial fibrillation (AF) is the commonest cardiac rhythm disorder. Evaluation of patients with AF requires an electrocardiogram, but imaging techniques should be considered for defining management and driving treatment. The present document is an expert consensus from the European Association of Cardiovascular Imaging (EACVI) and the European Heart Rhythm Association. The clinical value of echocardiography, cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR), computed tomography (CT), and nuclear imaging in AF patients are challenged. Left atrial (LA) volume and strain in echocardiography as well as assessment of LA fibrosis in CMR are discu...
