Comparison of SAPIEN 3 and SAPIEN XT transcatheter heart valve stent-frame expansion: evaluation using multi-slice computed tomography
Conclusion
The newer-generation, balloon-expandable device, the S3, has a flared inflow morphology, whereas the prior-generation device, the S-XT, has relatively constrained inflow morphology post TAVI. This may contribute to a lesser degree of PVR with the S3. (Source: European Journal of Echocardiography)

Ten-year longitudinal change in aortic stiffness assessed by cardiac MRI in the second half of the human lifespan: the multi-ethnic study of atherosclerosis
Conclusions
In our longitudinal, community-based cohort study of adult individuals aged 45 years or greater, greater mean blood pressure and a history of smoking history were associated with increased aortic stiffening over 10 years as assessed by MRI. (Source: European Journal of Echocardiography)

Diagnostic accuracy of cadmium-zinc-telluride-based myocardial perfusion SPECT: impact of attenuation correction using a co-registered external computed tomography
Conclusion
Attenuation correction with a co-registered external CT is feasible using CZT cameras and improves diagnostic accuracy mostly by improving specificity over uncorrected images. (Source: European Journal of Echocardiography)

Diastolic function improvement is associated with favourable outcomes in patients with acute non-ischaemic cardiomyopathy: insights from the multicentre IMAC-2 trial
Conclusion
In patients with recent onset non-ischaemic cardiomyopathy, DF recovery was associated with favourable outcomes independent of LVEF improvement, adding incremental prognostic value to these patients. (Source: European Journal of Echocardiography)

Myocardial oedema in acute myocarditis detected by echocardiographic 2D myocardial deformation analysis
Conclusion
In patients with acute myocarditis, 2D speckle-tracking echocardiography was a useful tool in the diagnostic process of acute myocarditis. Global longitudinal strain adds important information that can support clinical and conventional echocardiographic evaluation, especially in patients with preserved LV ejection fraction in relation to the diagnosis and degree of myocardial dysfunction. Normal values of left ventricular mass and cardiac chamber volumes assessed by 320-detector computed tomography angiography in the Copenhagen General Population Study
Conclusion
In this cross-sectional general population study, men have greater indexed LVM and chamber volumes than women, and cardiac indexed volumes vary between age groups in both genders. These findings demonstrate the need for age- and gender-specific normal values for clinical diagnostic purposes. (Source: European Journal of Echocardiography)

Targeting of vascular cell adhesion molecule-1 by 18F-labelled nanobodies for PET/CT imaging of inflamed atherosclerotic plaques
Conclusion
The [18F]-FB-anti-VCAM-1 Nb, cross-reactive for both mouse and human VCAM-1, allows non-invasive PET/CT imaging of VCAM-1 expression in atherosclerotic plaques in a murine model and may represent an attractive tool for imaging vulnerable atherosclerotic plaques in patients. Differential incremental value of ultrasound carotid intima-media thickness, carotid plaque, and cardiac calcium to predict angiographic coronary artery disease across Framingham risk score strata in the APRES multicentre study
Conclusions
Ultrasound eCS and cPL assessments were significant predictors of angiographic CAD in patients without prior CAD but with signs or symptoms suspect for CAD, independently and incrementally to FRS, across all pre-test risk probability strata, although in high-risk subjects, only eCS maintained an incremental value. The use of cIMT was not significantly incrementally useful in any FRS risk category. (Source: European Journal of Echocardiography)

Cardiac morphology and function reference values derived from a large subset of healthy young Caucasian adults by magnetic resonance imaging
Conclusion
This is the first large database of reference ranges for ventricular and atrial functions, volumes, and mass in young Caucasian men and women devoid of cardiovascular disease and risk factors. These data will contribute to improving the accuracy of CMR interpretation for clinical and research applications. (Source: European Journal of Echocardiography)
