Value of anatomical aortic valve area using real-time three-dimensional transoesophageal echocardiography in patients with aortic stenosis: a comparison between tricuspid and bicuspid aortic valves
Conclusion Aortic-valve morphology influenced the assessment of anatomical AVA in patients with AS, and 3D TEE is useful for assessing anatomical AVA regardless of aortic-valve morphology. (Source: European Journal of Echocardiography)

Ex vivo validation of 45 MHz intravascular ultrasound backscatter tissue characterization
Conclusion Tissue classification by 45 MHz VH IVUS technology, when not influenced by calcium-induced acoustic attenuation, provided combined tissue accuracy >88% to identify tissue types compared with the gold standard histologic assessment, with high inter- and intra-observer reproducibility. A quantitative high resolution voxel-wise assessment of myocardial blood flow from contrast-enhanced first-pass magnetic resonance perfusion imaging: microsphere validation in a magnetic resonance compatible free beating explanted pig heart model
Conclusion CMR-derived voxel-wise quantitative blood flow assessment is feasible and very accurate compared with microspheres. This technique is suitable for both clinically used field strengths and may provide the tools to assess extent and severity of myocardial ischaemia. (Source: European Journal of Echocardiography)

Severe regional myocardial dysfunction by stress echocardiography does not predict the presence of transmural scarring in chronic coronary artery disease
Conclusion Normo- and slightly hypokinetic myocardium by resting WMS or strain detects the absence of transmural scars. However, the finding of severe hypo- and akinesia does not reliably predict transmural scarring, with no improvement by the addition of DS. Detection of predominant akinesia with less than two normo- or hypokinetic segments in the territory of a high-grade coronary stenosis or occlusion, warrants further examination by LGE-CMR. Impact of diabetes duration on the extent and severity of coronary atheroma burden and long-term clinical outcome in asymptomatic type 2 diabetic patients: evaluation by Coronary CT angiography
Conclusion In asymptomatic diabetic patients, longer diabetes duration is associated with a higher prevalence, extent, and severity of CAD as well as risk of MACCE. Moreover, greater CAD burden increases the risk of MACCE independent of co-existing CAD risk factors. (Source: European Journal of Echocardiography)

Stress echocardiography in paediatric cardiology
Stress echocardiography is a well-established technique in adult cardiology and is mainly used for assessing regional myocardial function in patients with known or suspected coronary artery disease (CAD). Apart from detecting ischaemia, stress echocardiography has found its place in the assessment of the haemodynamic significance of valve disease, particularly in selected patients with aortic stenosis and mitral regurgitation. Also in the paediatric population, stress imaging is most commonly used for the detection of ischaemia in patients with CADs such as post heart transplantation, Kawasaki Disease, and abnormal origin ...
