Interstudy heterogeneity of definitions of diastolic dysfunction severely affects reported prevalence
Conclusion A substantial heterogeneity of definitions of DDF was evident among the studies reviewed, and the different definitions had a substantial impact on the reported prevalence of DDF. (Source: European Journal of Echocardiography)

Quantification of epicardial and intrathoracic fat volume does not provide an added prognostic value as an adjunct to coronary artery calcium score and myocardial perfusion single-photon emission computed tomography
Conclusion Quantification of EFV and IFV is associated with MACE and may improve risk stratification beyond traditional cardiovascular risk factors. However, once CAC score and/or SPECT-MPI results are known, EFV and IFV do not provide any added clinically relevant prognostic value. Further studies may identify the subpopulation with the largest relative merit of EFV and IFV as an adjunct to SPECT-MPI and CAC score. (Source: European Journal of Echocardiography)

Four-dimensional flow magnetic resonance imaging-based characterization of aortic morphometry and haemodynamics: impact of age, aortic diameter, and valve morphology
Conclusion A single acquisition of 4D flow MRI characterized local morphological and haemodynamic differences between groups along the aorta. BAV showed altered haemodynamics when compared with TAV in spite of having similar aorta dimensions. Maximal aorta diameter was associated with age, PV, and normalized flow displacement. Cardiac remodelling and function with primary mitral valve insufficiency studied by magnetic resonance imaging
Conclusion CMR provides a reproducible quantitative technique for evaluation of MI, as MIVol and cardiac chamber volumes can be held against diagnostic cut-off values. The Aoflow and peak ejection rate indexed to LVEDV may reveal early LV systolic dysfunction in patients with severe MI. Severe MI is related to lower MI regurgitation volume and fraction than previously believed. (Source: European Journal of Echocardiography)

Echocardiographic and angiographic assessment of paravalvular regurgitation after TAVI: optimizing inter-technique reproducibility
Conclusions Agreement between angiography and TTE (using the VARC-II criteria) in the grading of post-TAVI AR is modest, and this might have contributed to the inconsistency of data on the rate and fate of paravalvular AR. Inter-technique reproducibility can be improved using a combination of CD and hemodynamic parameters. (Source: European Journal of Echocardiography)

Computer-generated real-time digital holography: first time use in clinical medical imaging
Conclusions This study demonstrates, for the first time, the feasibility of generating high quality, clinically relevant, 3D real-time colour dynamic holograms in a standard clinical setting with real patient volumetric data. The impact of computer-generated holography needs to be evaluated in controlled clinical trials. (Source: European Journal of Echocardiography)

Static and dynamic assessment of myocardial perfusion by computed tomography
Recent developments in computed tomography (CT) technology have fulfilled the prerequisites for the clinical application of myocardial CT perfusion (CTP) imaging. The evaluation of myocardial perfusion by CT can be achieved by static or dynamic scan acquisitions. Although both approaches have proved clinically feasible, substantial barriers need to be overcome before its routine clinical application. The current review provides an outline of the current status of CTP imaging and also focuses on disparities between static and dynamic CTPs for the evaluation of myocardial blood flow. The use of imaging in new transcatheter interventions: an EACVI review paper
Transcatheter therapies for the treatment of valve heart diseases have expanded dramatically over the last years. The new developments and improvements in devices and techniques, along with the increasing expertise of operators, have turned the catheter-based approaches for valvular disease into an established treatment option. Various imaging techniques are used during these procedures, but echocardiography plays an essential role during patient selection, intra-procedural monitoring, and post-procedure follow-up. The echocardiographic assessment of patients undergoing transcatheter interventions places demands on echocar...
