Echocardiographic reference ranges for normal cardiac Doppler data: results from the NORRE Study
Conclusion The NORRE study provides the reference values for the most useful Doppler parameters in the evaluation of heart physiology. These data highlight the need of using age-specific reference values especially for the diagnosis of LV systolic and diastolic dysfunction and for the estimation of LV filling pressures. Combining FDG-PET and 99mTc-SPECT to predict functional outcome after coronary artery bypass surgery
Conclusion Preoperatively, PET and PET-SPECT with 10% threshold detected dysfunctional myocardium, but all analysis methods failed to predict 1-year functional outcome assessed by MRI. In patients with three-vessel disease and heart failure, SPECT perfusion and PET viability study results show substantial heterogeneity; this should be considered when selecting patients for revascularization. Myocardial mechanical and QTc dispersion for the detection of significant coronary artery disease
Conclusion The QTc interval and myocardial contraction duration are related to the presence of significant CAD in patients without a history of previous myocardial infarction. Myocardial mechanical dispersion has an incremental value to GLS for identifying patients with significant CAD. (Source: European Journal of Echocardiography)

Left atrial strain is a powerful predictor of atrial fibrillation recurrence after catheter ablation: study of a heterogeneous population with sinus rhythm or atrial fibrillation
Conclusion LA myocardial function assessed by basal LA-LS could predict AF recurrence after CA. Notably, such an assessment could be applicable even during AF rhythm, suggesting its convenience in the clinical setting without defibrillation before analysis. Left ventricular diastolic function, assessed by echocardiography and tissue Doppler imaging, is a strong predictor of cardiovascular events, superior to global left ventricular longitudinal strain, in patients with type 2 diabetes
Conclusion In middle-aged patients with type 2 diabetes, E/e' is a strong predictor of myocardial infarction and stroke, comparable with HbA1c and superior to GLS and LVEF. (Source: European Journal of Echocardiography)

Detection of subtle left ventricular systolic dysfunction in patients with significant aortic regurgitation and preserved left ventricular ejection fraction: speckle tracking echocardiographic analysis
Conclusion Multidirectional LV strain was more impaired in symptomatic than in asymptomatic patients with moderate-to-severe or severe AR, despite preserved LVEF. In asymptomatic AR patients, longitudinal and circumferential strains identified patients who would require surgery during follow-up. (Source: European Journal of Echocardiography)

Echocardiographic parameters of left ventricular size and function as predictors of symptomatic heart failure in patients with a left ventricular ejection fraction of 50-59% treated with anthracyclines
Conclusion In patients treated with anthracyclines with an LVEF of 50–59%, both baseline EDV and GLS predict the occurrence of MACE. These parameters may help target patients who could benefit from closer cardiac surveillance and earlier initiation of cardioprotective medical therapy. (Source: European Journal of Echocardiography)

Quantitative myocardial perfusion by O-15-water PET: individualized vs. standardized vascular territories
Conclusion Disparity between standardized and individualized vascular territories was present in half of the patients, but had little clinical impact. Still, caution should be taken not always to rely on standard territories, as this may at times cause misinterpretation. (Source: European Journal of Echocardiography)
