“You’re Gonna Be Pissed,” He Said to the Grand Grocery Overlord.
I went way overboard and got carried away buying groceries tonight.  There were so many things I needed. I also went grocery shopping on an mostly empty stomach and was hungry which is always a big no-no.  I finally put my last item in my cart which was a quart of Florida’s Natural grapefruit juice. I then headed to the magazine aisle where my father was reading magazines. “Pops,” I said. “I am ready to check out.” The total came out to be $117.98 cents when my target was $85 bucks.  I about freaked, but didn’t show it.  Surprisingly, my father didn’t say a word and sveltely swiped the de...

Silence Overcame Us…
The nicest thing about my new computer? It is almost completely silent. No noise. It must be the 120mm fans instead of the 80mm fans in my gaming computer. You can just barely hear the hard drive working. That’s the only sound emitted from it. My gaming computer sounds like a jet taking off. The only real problem I’ve had is getting them to network together, though.  I have entered the network password ten times to no avail.  I am sure I will have a eureka moment and will figure it out sooner rather than later. That has always been my Achilles heel with computers anyway. Networking. Could it be that I am tryi...

Greybeard? He Never Gives Up!
I pulled over to the side of the road due to the furtive waves of Greybeard who was walking down the street from his house. Graybeard’s house is just a few blocks over from my parent’s house – on my usual route to get there. He looked as excited as he gets. “Where are you going?” he asked as I rolled down my window. “I’m going by my parent’s house to get some sodas and then I am headed home,” I told him. “Will you drop me off across the river?” It looked like rain to me, but I said okay. The wind was also blowing something fierce, nasty and so cold. Graybeard also smelled so very strongly of underarm...

A Fluorescent Charlie’s Aura…
Charlie came tonight to replace all the bulbs that had blown or that were incandescent in my house and outside my house. He was in dad’s truck with a ladder on the back. I would screw them in as fast as Charlie could hand them to me and then we would move to the next socket. That’s the end of incandescent bulbs in this house. We are now a fluorescent family. I bet it reflects favorably on my utility bill next month. I needed my Crazy Meds tonight something so terribly.  I was so very glad when Charlie called and said he was on the way and would be there in 20 minutes. I was restless and agitated all day – It wa...

Tired, But Very Happy…
Midnight rolled around and a peaceful quiet soon followed. I am lucky loud noises don’t bother Maggie. I had just ate a pint of Ben and Jerry’s strawberry cheesecake ice-cream when the last firework next door fired. I turned off the television and headed to bed. My warm and soft covers awaited me. As Horsefly always says, “I love my covers!” Fiesta Time… My neighbors down the street always throw extremely huge parties and you couldn’t find a parking space even all the way up to my house. They had my driveway blocked and it perturbed Charlie, but I persuaded him into not calling the police. “They’re just ha...

Traditional Southern New Year’s Day Meal…
I have a very warm just delivered plate of peppercorn encrusted pork loin, mac and cheese, cabbage, collards, and black eyed peas sitting on the stove. Or Hoppin’ John as some in the South would call it. I better go eat it while it is still warm.  It is driving Maggie crazy at the moment. She will surely enjoy some pork loin and Charlie's wife was very generous with the portions.  Another friend acquired four Mason jars of lemon drop moonshine! He asked me if I wanted some and I almost went over to the dark side of the force. “I can be at your house in 15 minutes,” Ely told me. “Yeah, and I will be in t...

First Light of a Light Emitting Diode…
Well, I am writing this on my new backup, blogging and writing computer. It is just slightly slower than my gaming computer, but not by much – mainly in the graphics department is where it is lacking.  I am using the integrated graphics chip on my new Haswell processor. I crossed my fingers for good luck as I pressed the power button and my dormant computer sprung to life much to my relief. The hardest part of the ordeal was getting all of my device driver and favorite software installed.  It took two hours to install Windows 8.1 and everything else – my customary software such as Window’s Live! Writer, iTu...

Import and Export…
Well, Blogger finally fixed the import/export functions in the blog dashboard. I’ve been waiting a year it seems. This means you can save your blog and comments in an XML file and upload posts downloaded from another blog or a former blog. I now have blog posts going all the way back to 2004 now incorporated within this blog. I still can’t believe I’ve been blogging almost a decade.       Charlie Perchance? I am patiently waiting on dear Charlie to arrive so we can go get my groceries.  It takes Charlie about an hour to drive home from Dadeville where he works. Dad left him the debit card from my...

All Dressed Up With Nowhere to Go…
Well, my computer is ready – ready for the power supply to arrive with every thing else already installed in the case. I will install the power supply, plug it into my surge protector, and I hope the computer fires up with the first press of the power button. If not, then we will go into trouble shooting mode to find out what’s keeping it from booting. It can many times be something as simple as some RAM not fully installed or seated in its socket. I’ve learned to check the simplest things first and the error codes foremost.           Where Art Thou Charlie? The sun has set. I think Charlie h...

Fishes With Loaves…
Charlie was a bundle of nervous agitation and energy this afternoon. Between Horsefly and work, it can really grind and pound Charlie into the ground, and now he has to contend with me, medications, and my needs for another week. “It is not you,” Charlie told me, knowing how sensitive I am, but he didn’t elaborate for that matter either. Charlie and I fed and watered Maggie as she looked on with approval. We then took my medications. Charlie was trying to convince me this afternoon that I am 100 percent better on them. “I can’t see the difference,” I told Charlie. “You are like a different person!” he excl...

Patience Young Grasshopper…
Corsair HX Series 750 watts HX750 80 Plus Gold. This is what I ordered for Christmas and it was out of stock. I can’t build my new “emergency” computer without it. Newegg had more stock delivered and I told Matt at the pharmacy to jump on it and quickly order one for me. It is 80 plus gold as far as the efficiency goes and it has semi modular cabling; I am getting the best of both worlds with this power supply. Hopefully I can put it to the test come Monday. ‘Twas Midnight and the Rain Still Fell…
It is supposed to rain all day. I say let it rain. We may possibly get three inches when all is said and done.  My father just called me from San Diego and told me to keep an eye on the Chattahoochee's flood level with regards to the river house. The National Weather Service says the rainfall will start to taper off around midnight. I’ve already called Charlie and warned him of the heavy rain.  He said he was still taking Horsefly on his usual Saturday movie in Auburn.. “I will catch hell if I don’t,” Charlie replied with great consternation. “I really don’t have a choice in the matter.” “When d...
