Nitpicking the Worrisome Little Bits of Life…
My father was just over here for the medication ritual. I requested for him to come early and he willingly did. My mother was nagging him about it as well. I guess he was feeling guilty after last night. He had just left the nursing home after visiting with my great aunt. “Is Charlie and Janice going tonight?” I asked my father timidly fishing for information. “He is staying home and making sure you and Maggie get a bite to eat tonight,” my father told me. “We are eating birthday cake and vanilla ice-cream tomorrow night and he is going to be there for your mother’s birthday party.” I selfishly sighed with ...

Solid State Drives or SSDs…
Solid state drives have literally transformed computer performance almost overnight.  They’ve been around for years, but no one could afford them with prices well over $1000. As they became more and more mainstream, the prices have precipitously dropped. The one I am getting for my birthday is 250 GB and costs around $150. It will make my blogging computer quite noticeably snappier. Programs will open in an instant. The computer will boot in seconds. The processor is only as fast as the data it receives. Interestingly Good News…
I got an email from my cable company this morning in that they are going all digital.  I have to set up a time for a technician to come out and hook up my new set top box.  There is no extra charge for this.  This should mean a much improved picture, stereo/surround sound, and signal.  I really don’t know why I am excited as I only watch around 30 minutes of TV per day.   WOW! Cable is Going All Digital! We're excited to announce plans to upgrade our WOW! network in order to deliver more services to our customers in the future. Upon completion the WOW! Cable line up will be delivered in an all-di...

Yay! Helen’s Leftovers…
Helen-2-Go! I did a bad thing today! My father doesn’t like me to call their home landline as it wakes up my mother.  I forgot and mom picked up the phone.  My father promptly jumped into the conversation telling my mother he would put the leftovers on the porch. “You just stay in bed,” he told her. “I will put the plates out for Andrew.” A little caveat – I had already gotten my Cokes for the day and dad put out six extras and another pack of cigarettes.  I don’t know if this was intentional or not. Probably a little bit of “old timers” going on there. (Source: The 4th Avenue Blues)

Cleaning is the Name of the Game…
That’s what I have been doing for most of the afternoon – cleaning rooms, laundry, dusting and polishing furniture, and mopping hardwood floors.  On the neat side, I got my home theater hooked up to my blogging/writing/browsing computer via an optical digital cable. My mp3s have never sounded sweeter or better. I get into these cleaning moods and have to ride the wave and go with the flow.  I probably would no longer be in the mood to clean tomorrow. I called my father to excitedly share the news. He said he couldn’t wait to get over here to see it.  So, I hope he doesn’t arrive for hours from now....

T-Minus One Hour to Bed…
Dammit! I was livid tonight! I was about ready to blast off in grand shuttle fashion! Dad didn’t show up until around 10pm – the latest he has ever been.  I wanted to take my medications and go to bed! He apologized profusely to me and gave me a big hug.  “You can’t leave me hanging like that for hours!” I spat venomously at my father. “I won’t let it happen again,” he told me very apologetically.”I was looking at some old family home videos I had converted to Blu-Ray.” “Next time I am taking the medications from you and I will handle them from now on,” I replied. That raised an eyebrow...

An Entirely New Day Dawns…
It was cold this morning in the Southland when I awoke around 6am.  There was also some patchy frost in shaded areas as Jack Frost nipped at our heels. I turned up my thermostat a few degrees to chase away the chill as I got breakfast started. I am hoping this morning will be the last frost until next year when fall arrives yet once again. I was in zombie land this morning as I ate my breakfast – staring off into space and not fully awake. Maggie was stretched out on her side as she lay on the kitchen floor at my feet.  She had her three plain scrambled eggs and she was happy.  Not only is eating a way to ...

Redbuds in Blossom…
How can such a scraggly looking tree put out such beautiful blossoms every spring? I’ve actually been to a “redbud festival” one year in Texas. (Source: The 4th Avenue Blues)

Helen Friday…
I was going to quit smoking today. I had my mind resolute and made up.  I was going to quit smoking and use those hundreds and hundreds of dollars just being burned up on affording me more computer parts.  I ran by Fred’s Dollar Store and bought lots of Jolly Rancher hard candies and lots of chewing gum.  I was just talking to my father about it over the phone as my mother had told him my plans.  He strongly urged me to try later. “We need to plan this carefully,” he told me. “We will get some Chantix or possibly wean you off over time.” The last time I quit smoking I got mentally off in a ve...

Naysay a Jetsetter…
You won’t see me flying to the Hampton's for a little weekend soirée. Just the mere thought of flying out of Atlanta makes me tired and nervous.  This Friday night has found me rearranging furniture, TVs, and computer desks. I am also connecting my home theater to my blogging computer which is tedious as I can’t see well enough to hook up all the cables. Especially the speaker wires. FECK! I have also just gotten back from filling up my car with gasoline.  I almost wept at the final tallying cost. $44. Luckily, I only fill up my car around once a month.  As you can see, I am not a jetsetter. I received...

A Blinding Relentless Sun…
My optometrist says I am perfectly legal to drive. He’s also known for his practical jokes over the years.  I sometimes have my doubts, though, about my legality.  This morning when I was headed to the Valley to get my injection – a blinding sun met me in the east. I could barely see to drive. I sighed with relief when I pulled into Dr. Kamath’s parking lot. I put sunglasses on the list of things I next need to buy. (Source: The 4th Avenue Blues)

Much Wringing of Hands for My Masterful Plan…
Mom called me this afternoon  to tell me she would help pay for my new Samsung EVO solid state drive I want for my birthday in April. “Your daddy is giving you a hundred dollars and I am as well.” mom told me. My grand plan and machinations had come to fruition. I thanked her extremely profusely and told her I would take her to the bookstore and out to eat any day she pleases. I was giddy as giddy can get! What nice news and a wonderful phone call indeed. Right now, I am slowly passing the time till we go and eat at the Mexican restaurant.  I hope Mrs. Sandra comes tonight as her laughter is supremely cont...
