Peer teaching of the physical exam: a pilot study
Summary
BackgroundMastery of the physical exam (PE), and the ability to teach it to peers and medical students, are important milestones for residents (junior doctors); however, several reports indicate that PE skills are in decline. To address this need, we explored the use of peer observation of teaching (POT) as a conceptual framework to develop an innovative approach to PE teaching at the postgraduate medical education level.

Medical students ’ perceptions of low‐value care
This study is a multicentre, targeted needs assessment comparing medical student perceptions of LVC at four institutions, after completion of their internal medicine clerkship, to identify areas of focus for future HVC curriculum development.
MethodsA total of 307 medical students at four institutions participated in a voluntary survey and identified instances of LVC during the internal medicine clerkship. Responses were organised into seven LVC categories and analysed using chi‐square testing to determine response variation by institution.

Near ‐peer question writing and teaching programme
ConclusionThe NPAL project highlighted a trend towards improving students’ confidence. Furthermore, the question writing and teaching programme can be used as a guide to confidently hold teaching sessions in the future. ConclusionOverall, the students’ perceptions of the wiki as a learning tool indicated that it was a worthwhile experience. Moving forward, wikis will continue to be used and incorporated into other modules in the first year. Setting clearer goals for each task would enable the students to use their time more efficiently in the future.
