Reinforcing the utility of chick embryo model to in vivo evaluate engraftment of human leukemic stem cells
Conclusion Collectively, our data confirm the engraftment of primary human CD34+ leukemic cells in chick embryo liver, but other experiments are required to verify engraftment in BM and spleen, and to confirm the identity of a putative CD34 orthologous transcript in these two organs. Downregulation of Caspase 8 in a group of Iranian breast cancer patients – A pilot study
Conclusion To the best of our knowledge, this study is the first report on reduced expression of CASP8 in breast cancer versus adjacent normal tissues. Our data support previous results obtained from cell lines and therefore highlights the seminal role of the induction of CASP8 expression, as a novel therapeutic approach, in order to sensitize tumour cells to apoptotic stimuli. Does radiotherapy prior to surgery improve long term prognosis in pediatric colorectal cancer in lower- and upper-middle income countries with limited resources? Our experience and literature review
We present a case study of a 12-year-old female with advanced colorectal cancer without a predisposing disease or syndrome, who received radio-chemotherapy ten weeks prior to radical abdominopelvic surgery, followed by radio-chemotherapy postoperatively, with a positive outcome. Pelvic bone anatomy vs implanted gold seed marker registration for image-guided intensity modulated radiotherapy for prostate carcinoma: Comparative analysis of inter-fraction motion and toxicities
Conclusions IG-IMRT-M detects higher prostate motion variability as compared to IG-IMRT-B, inferring a significant prostate motion inside fixed pelvic bony cavity. Maspin expression and subcellular localization in invasive ductal carcinoma of the breast: Prognostic significance and relation to microvessel density
This study was conducted to investigate the expression of maspin in invasive ductal carcinoma (IDC) of the breast with special emphasis on its subcellular localization and to evaluate its prognostic role in relation to clinicopathological parameters and microvessel density (MVD) of the tumor. The expression of maspin was evaluated immunohistochemically in 45 IDC cases. The positive rate of maspin expression was 73.3%. Surgical approaches, anaesthetic management and outcome in pediatric superior mediastinal tumors
Conclusion Pediatric superior mediastinal tumors could be divided into 3 groups according to tumor extension. Each group has an optimum surgical approach that achieves the best exposure for adequate resection. Alveolar soft part sarcoma of orbit: A rare diagnosis
Conclusion Function preserving surgery remains the standard treatment approach in localised disease however the complex anatomy and locally aggressive nature makes it difficult to achieve clear surgical margin. Addition of 3-day aprepitant to ondansetron and dexamethasone for prophylaxis of chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting among patients with diffuse large B cell lymphoma receiving 5-day cisplatin-based chemotherapy
Conclusion This triple anti-emetic regimen showed efficacy in controlling the multi-day cisplatin-induced nausea and vomiting. Impact of CYP1A1, GSTP1 and XRCC1 genes polymorphisms on toxicity and response to chemotherapy in childhood acute lymphoblastic leukemia
Conclusion Our study reported a significant association between the DNA repair gene polymorphism and myelosuppression in childhood ALL patients.
