Small intestine and ovarian metastasis in a patient with a history of cardiac fibrosacoma
In this report, a 35year old woman a known case of cardiac fibrosarcoma was admitted to the emergency ward with abdominal pain and distention, bloody diarrhea, and recurrent nausea and vomiting. Jejuno-jejunal invagination was diagnosed at laparotomy along with tumoral involvement of the left ovary. Histopathological study showed that there was a fibrosarcoma compatible with the earlier diagnosis of primary cardiac tumor. We have described some aspects of diagnosis and treatment of this rare cause of intestinal intussusception. (Source: Journal of the Egyptian National Cancer Institute)

Non small cell carcinoma of lung with metachronous breast metastasis and cardiac tamponade: Unusual presentation of a common cancer
Conclusion The importance of this case is to highlight molecular profiling as an applicable tool to distinguish extra-mammary metastasis that masquerade as mammary neoplasm thereby preventing unnecessary need of surgery and radiation therapy. Impact of imatinib interruption and duration of prior hydroxyurea on the treatment outcome in patients with chronic myeloid leukemia: Single institution experience
Conclusion Duration of prior hydroxyurea had no impact on response or progression free survival, while patients regular on imatinib had statistically significant difference with respect to major molecular response, complete molecular response and progression free survival compared to those who had periods of drug interruption, thus we need more governmental support to supply the drug without interruption to improve the outcome of therapy. Long term survival with the combination of interferon and chemotherapy in metastatic melanoma
Publication date: Available online 12 March 2015 Source:Journal of the Egyptian National Cancer Institute Author(s): Bülent Karagöz , Oğuz Bilgi , Alpaslan Özgün , Levent Emirzeoğlu , Serkan Çelik , Ahmet Özet The prognosis of metastatic melanoma is poor. Pre-targeted treatment era, the combination of interferon-α (IF-α) plus chemotherapy had been used and have generally short response duration. Herein, we present a metastatic melanoma case that achieved long-term durable complete response (CR) IF-α plus chemotherapy and IF-α maintenance therapy and had lower Regulatory T (Treg) cells. A fifty-year ol...

Exosomal protein interactors as emerging therapeutic targets in urothelial bladder cancer
Conclusions The importance of identifying interactors is that that they can be used as targets for therapy, for example, using Bevacizumab (avastin – an angiogenesis inhibitor) against NF2 to inhibit protein–protein interactions will inhibit tumor growth and progression by hindering the exosome biogenesis. End-of-life palliative chemotherapy: Where do we stand?
Conclusion In our center; at the end of life, there is a gradual increase in the number of patients receiving chemotherapy which significantly increased cancer patients’ odds without clear predictive factors associated with its use, which calls into question the benefits of PCT in terminally ill cancer patients. Holocord low grade astrocytoma – Role of radical irradiation and chemotherapy
We describe a case of a 14-year-old girl with holocord astrocytoma extending from cervicomedullary junction till lumbar spine, who recovered full neurological function following radical irradiation of entire spine followed by temozolomide-based chemotherapy. No grade 3/4 bone marrow morbidity was seen. Five years following treatment, she maintained normal neurological function and apparently normal pubertal and skeletal growth despite residual disease visible on imaging. Literature review of existing reports of holocord astrocytomas highlighting management and outcome is presented. (Source: Journal of the Egyptian National Cancer Institute)

Prevalence and chemotherapy-induced reactivation of occult hepatitis B virus among hepatitis B surface antigen negative patients with diffuse large B-cell lymphoma: Significance of hepatitis B core antibodies screening
Conclusion The study concluded that anti-HBc screening is mandatory before chemotherapy. HBsAg-negative/anti-HBc-positive patients should be closely observed for signs of HBV reactivation through the regular monitoring of ALT. Prophylaxis lamivudine is recommended for anti-HBc positive patients before chemotherapy. (Source: Journal of the Egyptian National Cancer Institute)
