Short course palliative radiotherapy in the management of choroidal metastasis: An effective technique since ages
Conclusion Short course palliative radiation therapy is an effective modality for the management of choroidal metastasis in patients of carcinoma breast. In the current report it led to formidable local control with acceptable radiation induced toxicity. (Source: Journal of the Egyptian National Cancer Institute)

Comparative immunohistochemical expression of β-catenin, EGFR, ErbB2, and p63 in adamantinomatous and papillary craniopharyngiomas
Conclusion Nuclear accumulation of β-catenin is a diagnostic hallmark of the ACP and is very helpful in the differential diagnosis between both ACP and PCP in the setting of small biopsies. Moreover, the restricted nuclear β-catenin accumulation in the cohesive cell clusters within the whorl-like areas supports that aberrant β-catenin expression may play a role in the morphogenesis of ACP. Treatment results of pediatric nasopharyngeal carcinoma, NCI, Cairo University experience
Conclusion Radio-chemotherapy management for pediatric NPC resulted in comparable treatment outcomes with tolerable late effects. Response adapted radio-chemotherapy regimens in addition to the potential use of IMRT should be recommended to decrease treatment related side effects. Prolonged OAP of RT⩾50days and low Hb level were encountered as adverse prognostic factors; findings that need further investigation. (Source: Journal of the Egyptian National Cancer Institute)

Diagnostic accuracy of fine needle aspiration cytology of thyroid and evaluation of discordant cases
Conclusion In spite of high accuracy of FNAC in differentiating between a benign and malignant lesion, certain pitfalls should be kept in mind. The common false negative diagnoses were follicular pattern cases which constitute a ‘gray zone’, cystic papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC) and papillary microcarcinoma. The reason for false positive diagnoses was the occurrence of nuclear features characteristic of PTC in other thyroid lesions. Awareness of pathologist regarding these pitfalls can minimize false negative/positive diagnoses. (Source: Journal of the Egyptian National Cancer Institute)

Vulvar metastasis from carcinoma breast unveiling distant metastasis: Exploring an unusual metastatic pattern
Publication date: Available online 6 July 2015 Source:Journal of the Egyptian National Cancer Institute Author(s): Ajeet Kumar Gandhi , Soumyajit Roy , Asit Ranjan Mridha , Daya Nand Sharma A 76year old woman with a previous history of infiltrating ductal carcinoma of right breast (diagnosed and treated 14years back) presented to us with a non-healing ulcer on the left side of the vulva along with two satellite nodules close to the vulvar lesion. Biopsy showed an infiltrating ductal carcinoma of breast with a strong positivity for estrogen/progesterone receptors. Further, 18F-FDG PET–CT (Fluoro-deoxy glucose posi...

Small cell carcinoma of the lung in a treated case of Myoepithelial carcinoma of the tongue – Report of a rare case with illustrated review of the literature
Publication date: Available online 24 June 2015 Source:Journal of the Egyptian National Cancer Institute Author(s): Bhanuprasad Venkatesulu , Supriya Mallick , Archana George , Suman Bhasker Myoepithelial carcinoma has rarely been reported in the oral cavity and oropharynx. We found only 6 cases of myoepithelioma of the tongue reported till date. Two cases had a benign myoepithelioma; four had epithelial-Myoepithelial carcinoma. The present case had malignant myoepithelioma, a distinct entity from other histologies. (Source: Journal of the Egyptian National Cancer Institute)

Extra skeletal osteosarcoma of gall bladder: A case report
Publication date: Available online 13 June 2015 Source:Journal of the Egyptian National Cancer Institute Author(s): Abhishek Shankar , Ranjit Kumar Sahoo , Abhidha Malik , Aanchal Kakkar , Goura Kishor Rath Extraskeletal osteosarcoma is a rare malignant soft tissue tumor. At open cholecystectomy performed for gallstones, a 45-year-old woman was found to have extraskeletal osteosarcoma on histopathological examination. 1year after surgery, the patient is symptom free and all imaging studies are normal. After multidisciplinary discussion it was decided to give no further treatment. The patient was asked to follow up...

Neoadjuvant treatment intensification or adjuvant chemotherapy for locally advanced carcinoma rectum: The optimum treatment approach remains unresolved
Conclusion Preoperative radiotherapy appears to improve disease control with favorable toxicity profile and there is very little to choose between long course chemoradiotherapy and short course radiotherapy. However, long course chemoradiotherapy may be beneficial for patients with high risk features like positive circumferential resection margin [CRM] and extramural spread of >5mm. There is no role for adjuvant chemotherapy in patients who were treated preoperative (chemo)radiotherapy. (Source: Journal of the Egyptian National Cancer Institute)

Malignant hepatic perivascular epithelioid cell tumor (PEComa) – Case report and a brief review
Publication date: Available online 10 June 2015 Source:Journal of the Egyptian National Cancer Institute Author(s): Banerjee Abhirup , Kundalia Kaushal , Mehta Sanket , Nagarajan Ganesh Perivascular epithelioid cell tumors (PEComas) are rare mesenchymal neoplasms which can arise from almost any location in the body. Diagnosing them pre-operatively is difficult as they mimic features of other hepatic neoplasms including hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), fibrolamellar HCC, and focal nodular hyperplasia (FNH) among others. The unique feature of these tumors is the coexpression of muscle and melanocytic markers. These ar...

Role of immunohistochemistry and fluorescence in-situ hybridization (FISH) in the diagnosis of spindle and round cell tumors of the kidney
Conclusion In summary we advise an immunohistochemical panel for round/spindle cell tumors of the kidney and for unclear cases we advise to add (FISH) to get the correct diagnosis, as they are completely different regarding surgical approach and post-operative adjuvant therapy. Breast cancer correlates in a cohort of breast screening program participants in Riyadh, KSA
Conclusions The findings of the current work suggested that age at marriage, age at menopause ⩾50years and 1st degree family history of breast cancer were risk factors for breast cancer, while, age at menopause <50years, number of pregnancies and practicing breast feeding were protective factors against breast cancer. There was no effect of body mass index or physical inactivity. Further studies are needed to explore the hereditary, familial and genetic background risk factors in Saudi population.
